Job summary

The University of Virginia seeks an Instrumentation & Controls Technician within Facilities Management, Building Automation Services. You’ll troubleshoot and maintain HVAC control systems across operating rooms, pharmacies, vivariums, and laboratories, supporting critical storage and regulatory requirements.

Role combines HVAC, DDC controls, software, and network troubleshooting with commissioning exposure.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 2+ years of BAS/DDC/HVAC controls field experience.
• Valid Virginia driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
• Ability to work in high-energy, high-risk environments.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair BAS and DDC systems, including supervisory devices, networks, I/O, and sensors.
• Service building automation controls for AHU, VAV, FCU, chilled water, hot water, steam, VFDs.
• Interpret and apply sequences of operation to verify proper system operation and control performance.
• Provide 24/7 response to BAS service requests and alarms affecting HVAC and critical operations.
• Diagnose and restore BAS functionality during outages and controller failures.
• Coordinate emergency response with the System Control Center and stakeholders.
• Operate Metasys, WebCTRL, and third-party BAS platforms to monitor performance and manage alarms.
• Create/maintain graphical displays; upload/download application programs and device configurations.
• Install, configure, and calibrate DDC controllers and sensors per specs.
