Job summary

GDI Ainsworth in Portland, OR is seeking an Outside Sales professional to grow our Building Automation business. You will identify projects, develop relationships with mechanical/electrical contractors and engineers, and drive revenue through strategic account development throughout the project lifecycle.

The role requires strong problem solving and communication skills, a background in BMS/HVAC or related fields, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • 3 years minimum sales, engineering, commissioning, project management, technical, or related experience in Building Management Systems (BMS) or related industries for commercial clients.
  • Confident, outgoing and able to cold call on existing and new clients.
  • Technical understanding of BMS, building automation controls, HVAC, electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Self-motivated and a team player.
  • Organizational skills and ability to process contract estimates and documents timely.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building with engineers, contractors, facility managers and end users.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Review bid requests and specifications to qualify projects for action.
  • Develop relationships with clients, mechanical contractors and consulting engineers.
  • Communicate with Building Automation Solutions Account Managers on scope and decision making.
  • Develop value-engineered alternatives for client consideration.
  • Maintain CRM entries and forecast in Sales Funnel.
  • Prepare technical proposals and RFIs, prequalification forms.
  • Distribute proposals and follow up to determine next steps.
  • Maintain vendor and subcontractor contacts in CRM and coordinate bid processes.

The BMS Outside Sales position is critical to the growth of our Building Automation business, focusing on developing new opportunities, identifying projects, and delivering innovative building controls and energy management solutions. Success in this role requires strong problem-solving, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will cultivate partnerships with m echanical, electrical, contractors, consulting engineers, building owners, and end users, while driving revenue growth through strategic account development and engagement throughout the project lifecycle

Responsibilities
  • Review Bid Requests, Plans & Specifications, etc. to QualifyProjects for appropriate action.
  • Develop relationships with Clients, Mechanical Contractors and Consulting Engineers.
  • Communicate with GDI Ainsworth – Building Automation Solutions Account Managers on all points of the specified work and any decision making required.
  • Develop Value Engineered Alternatives for Client's consideration.
  • Maintain Bid Lists and CRM entries accurately with timely updatesto Sales Funnel for reporting to Sales Team and Corporate.
  • Receive Estimating Department phone calls. Handle Bid Requests phone calls, and query caller for project details.
  • Estimate projects by developing formal Client Proposal, System Sketches and Point Lists with all detail required for Sub Contractor RFP and Estimating System input including Electrical Budgeting.
  • Maintain Documentation by obtaining plans, specs, and addenda for Qualification, Bid and Change Orders.
  • Mark up floor plans and or use of Blue Beam Software for scope of work take-off.
  • Create the bid folder on Server, project and quote number from CRM.
  • Contact vendors and Sub Contractorsto determine if they would like to bid their trade, electrical contractors, and suppliers,etc. Follow up with Vendorsforproposals required before bid deadline.
  • SetupFTP site with Plans, Specs and Sales Sketches for each project, for RFP to solicit Sub Contractor pricing.
  • E-file all subcontractor and vendor proposals in project file.
  • Update and maintain forecasting funnel with Account Managers’ input
  • Prepare technical proposals
  • Prepare Ainsworth – Building Automation Solutions RFIdocuments
  • Complete Prequalification Forms
  • Distribute completed Ainsworth – Building Automation Solutions Proposal to Bidding Contractors.
  • Follow up to confirm receipt of Proposals and requestnext steps.
  • Sales Tracking by updating CRM
  • Follow up in a timely manner after bid, to determine status of project
  • Maintain Mechanical Contractors, Electrical Contractors, and Engineers contact list in CRM.
  • Generate the “Booking Package”, distributing the packages to each department, coordinate project turnover.
Qualifications
  • 3 years minimum Sales, Engineering, Commissioning, Project Management, Technical, or related experience in the Building Management Systems (BMS), HVAC, electrical, and/or mechanical industries dealing with commercial clients
  • Confident, outgoing, ability to cold call on existing and new clients
  • Technical understanding of Building Management Systems (BMS), building automation controls, HVAC, electrical, and mechanical systems
  • Self-motivated, ability to work as a Team player
  • Organizational skills that include proficient computer skills. Ability to process contract estimates and documents in a timely fashion.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with consulting engineers, contractors, facility managers, commissioning agents, and end users
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Valid Driver’s License
