Overview

Job Title: Accounting Clerk

Department: Retail

Reports To: Store Manager, Company Controller

General Description

Keeps records of financial transactions for the establishment by performing the following duties.

Include the following; other activities may be assigned:

  • Maintains and compiles accurate records for Barton's Store Location(s), and effectively communicates and transmits appropriate information to the Home Office Accounting Department.

Job Duties

Must perform the following duties to achieve essential job functions; other duties may be assigned:

  • Verifies, allocates, and posts details of business transactions to subsidiary accounts in journals or computer files from documents such as sales slips, invoices, receipts, check stubs, and computer printouts.
  • Reconciles and balances accounts.
  • Computes and mails monthly statements to customers.
  • Assists with answering incoming telephone calls, determines the purpose of callers, and forwards calls to appropriate personnel.

Qualifications
Education and/or Experience

High School Diploma or GED and one to two years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.

Computer Skills

Working knowledge of computers, databases, and office software.
