Job summary

City of Onalaska is seeking a seasonal bartender to greet customers, take drink orders, and ensure a welcoming bar experience. You will mix cocktails, manage payments, check IDs, and maintain a clean, organized work area.

Applicants must be at least 18 with a high school diploma or equivalent. This on-site, limited-term role offers flexible scheduling, but no benefits. Able to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds as needed.

Job description

Essential Job Functions

• Greet customers in a friendly and timely manner and take drink orders from customers.
• Process the order on cash register and return correct change; follow City cash handling policies and procedures. Balance cash drawer each shift or as directed following established cash handling policies.
• Check identification of customers to verify age requirements for purchase of alcohol.
• Mix ingredients, such as liquor, soda, water, sugar, bitters, to prepare cocktails and other drinks.
• Inform manager of bartending supply levels after each shift; may assist in ordering liquor and other bartending supplies.
• Arrange bottles and glasses to make attractive displays.
• Clean glasses, utensils, tables, bar equipment, and general workarea.
• Contain overuse of alcohol by customers by cutting off alcohol supply; may be required to quiet a loud or obnoxious customer or require them to leave the premises.
• Contribute to a cooperative working effort by demonstrating a willingness to perform other job-related work as needed or requested. Assistance is given to others and special projects to be completed as scheduled or requested.
• Other duties as assigned or required.

Compensation

Wage range for this seasonal, limited-term position is $10.00 to $13.00 per hour depending on qualifications and budget. Flexible scheduling available. There are no benefits associated with limited-term positions.

The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Standing/walking up to eight (8) hours per day and frequent bending and stooping. Ability to lift various weights up to fifty (50) pounds. Ability to perform overhead work.
