Job description

The Barista is a knowledgeable and enthusiastic team member who helps bring Malvern Buttery’s beverage program to life—mastering our coffee, tea, and retail offerings while warmly sharing that knowledge with both guests and fellow staff. As a proud ambassador of The Buttery, this person collaborates closely with the Lead Barista to create a welcoming, high-quality customer experience and help foster a supportive, positive work environment.

Responsibilities

1. Prepare and serve beverages according to The Buttery’s standards in a timely manner.
2. Foster a culture of respect, support, and teamwork.
3. Assist the Lead Barista in enforcing health, food safety, and sanitation standards in the Front of House (FOH).
4. Restock shelves and assist with the distribution of weekly deliveries as needed.
5. Routinely clean the bar area, customer tables, and coffee equipment.
6. Provide efficient and friendly service at all times.
7. Accurately ring up sales, handle cash, and give change courteously.
8. Report customer comments to the Lead Barista or General Manager.
9. Maintain neatness and cleanliness in retail displays, storage areas, and the FOH bar area.
10. Ensure beverage standards are upheld across the team in coordination with the Lead Barista.
11. Continue education on coffee and tea products.
12. Collaborate with the Lead Barista and AGM to train new staff on culture, beverage procedures, and customer service.

Qualifications

1. At least 1 year of experience in high-volume coffee preferred but willing to train the right candidate.
2. Previous customer service experience in food and beverage or retail setting preferred.
3. Excellent time management, organizational, and listening skills.
4. Strong understanding of coffee drink execution.
5. Passion for hospitality and providing excellent customer service.
6. Love for all things food and beverage.
7. Be caring, self-motivated, and exhibit an aptitude for learning, teaching, and promoting teamwork.
