The hourly wage, inclusive of a 1% wage differential, is $ 22.28 - $23.55.

Job Summary
There are two Hero Café and Market locations on campus.One is situated in the Orchard Commons, a first year residence and mixed use academic and student use hubs and the second is located in the new Brock Commons South, within the Harvest Market concept.Hero Café and Markets are a new, hip, hang-out café on campus that serveshand crafted espresso beverages, as well as each location will provide varying menu options such as pour over coffees, bold drip coffee flavours, fresh, healthy smoothies and cold hand crafted beverages, unique pastries and a market space with diverse offerings, snacks and take away options. The Hero Café brand partners with a local roaster and follows roaster brand training. The Barista (Sales Attendant) for Hero Café Market is be responsible for preparing specialty, hand crafted beverages while providing exceptional, personalized customer service.
Organizational Status
Reports to the Retail and/or Residence Dining Supervisor and Manager.
The café will be open for early morning coffee and continuing to operate into the evenings to satisfy those late night caffeine requirements of a studious population. This position may be required to work at different locations as operationally needed.
Work Performed
Welcome, connect and engage with every customer, ensuring a high level of customer service and personalized attention. Explore their needs and prepare a product that meets their needs as well as Hero Café's high level of quality.
Prepare and serve made to order pour-over coffee, espresso-based drinks, drip coffees, hot chocolate, smoothies and other specialty beverages as per the menu offerings of the location
Prepare, portion and present food to customers in accordance with Hero Café's standards.
Assess and ensure high level of quality of finished product prior to serving customer. Confirms correct signage is in place for all menu items being served and sold.
Set up service counter and replenish items, ensuring appropriate stock levels and proper stock rotation in refrigeration, storage and counter display units.
Working with Hero Café s Point of Sale system, accurately and with minimum error, processes guest orders in computer or POS system and accepts payment via cash, meal plan card, vouchers, debit, or credit card; distributes change and receipts as required; and cashes out as per UBC Food Services policies.
Maintains a fundamental working knowledge of allergens, ingredients and is able to provide answers to guest inquiries regarding ingredients of menu items served.
Follow Hero standards for stocking, rotating and storing product.
Recommend food inventory levels and calls in approved orders; assists in maintaining inventory.
Bus and clean tables and seating areas, work station , and café equipment.
Perform the duties of other food service workers on a relief basis as operationally required.
Maintain proper standards of sanitation and safety in accordance with FoodSafe, UBC policy and UBC Food Services safety guidelines.
Carry out any other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this classification.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Makes minor decisions related to sequence of duties; impact of errors is minimal.
Supervision Received
Works under general supervision and independently as required. Reports to the Retail and/or Residence Dining Supervisor, and Manager.
Supervision Given
None. May assist in training new employees or guide student workers.
Minimum Qualifications
Grade 10, a minimum one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Must complete and pass specialized Hero café Market training program. Ability to learn coffee roaster brand, product and the pour-over coffee style1 years relevant experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience as a Barista preferred. Excellent communication skills Experience working as a member of a fast paced team in quick service cafes and/or franchised cafes Customer service and cash handling experience required.
