Job summary

Pret A Manger is seeking a passionate Barista in New York to craft espresso drinks and deliver warm guest experiences in a fast-paced shop.

You’ll lead by example, coaching teammates on Barista Prepared Drinks, maintain Pret standards and help grow daily sales, while earning tips and a Mystery Shopper bonus.

Required: 1 year as a Barista, strong communication, reliability and a love for great coffee in a bustling cafe environment.

Qualifications

• Barista: 1 year (Required)

Responsibilities

• Coach and train Team Member Star and Baristas-in-training on Barista Prepared Drinks and standards
• Create Pret Buzz by positively engaging with guests and the team with eye contact and a smile
• Serve Barista Prepared Drinks to the 60 seconds standards and communicate when this is not possible
• Wow customers with latte art
• Make all Barista Prepared Drinks to Pret standards and maintain bar knowledge
• Maintain Barista Prepared Drinks counter operations, cleanliness & maintenance
• Carry out log checks, thermometer calibration and dribble tests per Pret standards
• Manage waste levels of Barista Prepared Drinks ingredients
• Address stock variances and waste with the Manager
• Keep shelves restocked and picture perfect throughout the day
• Grow sales by understanding shop performance and customer needs

About the Role

Pret A Manger is looking for a passionate and skilled Barista to join our team. You’ll be the heart of our coffee experience, crafting consistently excellent drinks, creating genuine moments of connection with guests, and bringing the energy and warmth that defines Pret Buzz. This is more than a barista role: you’ll be a coach and standard-setter for your team, helping train and develop fellow team members on Pret's Barista Prepared Drinks program. • To maintain the Barista Prepared Drinks equipment, Barista box and daily & weekly checks to Pret standards
• To view the Barista Prepared Drinks counter through a customer’s eyes and clean as you go
• To carry out log checks, thermometer calibration and dribble tests in line with Pret standards
• To manage the waste levels of Barista Prepared Drinks ingredients
• To action any issues relating to stock variances and waste for Barista Prepared Drinks as required by your Manager
• Support with keeping shelves restocked and looking picture perfect throughout the day

Growing Sales: Maximizing Barista Prepared Drinks sales

• To have a weekly sales target and share this with the team
• To know your shop Barista Prepared Drinks sales versus total sales and the mix
• To recognize regular customers with appropriate volume of drinks via Joy of Pret

Required Experience

• Barista: 1 year (Required)
• Proficiency in espresso based drinks

• NYC Food Handlers Card (Preferred)
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects up to 50 pounds; bend, reach overhead, squat, kneel, and go up and down stairs as needed; safely maneuver through tight or compact spaces; operate restaurant equipment and handle tools such as tongs, pots, and pans with dexterity; work in environments ranging from hot to cold, including near open flames and occasional outdoor conditions; maintain close, distance, and peripheral vision; communicate continuously with team members; and work in a constant state of alertness while maintaining safe operations
• The ability to perform other physical requirements such as seeing, hearing, speaking, reaching, bending, and moving intermittently during working hours. These physical requirements may be accomplished with or without reasonable accommodations.
