This job entails taking orders for and serving food and beverage items to customers in a friendly, enthusiastic, and professional manner while using suggestive selling techniques. Regularly greet, communicate and converse with all guests. Set up and maintain an attractive, organized, clean, and standardized presentation. Make and serve coffee drinks. Educate and inform customers about the differences among coffee beans, coffee preparation, and home brewing methods. Continuously check food to ensure appearance, temperature, and portions are correct. Be knowledgeable of all menu items. Be prepared to answer any guest questions clearly and concisely. The candidate must also clear and clean tables as they are vacated. Listen and respond to guest requests or concerns. Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel. What exactly you will be doing…

In helping you understand your role in working for a world-class organization, the following is a list of your essential job responsibilities. Please keep in mind that this list is not all-inclusive and that you may be asked to perform other job tasks by your supervisors/managers in our constant quest to provide an “out of this world” customer service experience for our guests:

  • Must love people and have a passion for serving others and the community
  • Prepare the coffee bar daily, maintain it during the shift, and clean it nightly for the next shift
  • Maintain a clean, hygienic, and organized work environment including stocking supplies, washing and polishing glassware, folding napkins, cleaning menus, sanitizing tables, etc.
  • Stock the coffee bar as necessary in accordance with company guidelines regarding liquor requisition
  • Adhere to company standards regarding food and beverage knowledge
  • Orchestrate an extraordinary guest experience through positive guest interaction
  • Guide guests through aspects of our hotel and our city
  • Ensure that guests are of legal drinking age by asking for appropriate ID
  • Handle cash and adhere to company policies regarding money handling
  • Accurately enter all items into the POS system and charge guests accordingly
  • Comply with sanitation standards and notify management of any issues

What qualities are we looking for?

  • Lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Learn and sell menu items
  • Stand for periods of 8-10 hours
  • Enjoy working around and with people
  • Work collaboratively with others, keeping guests and teammates as focus
  • Communicate clearly in verbal and written English
  • Follow all safety, health, and legal procedures
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance per hotel standards
  • Bend, squat, and stretch in confined spaces to perform duties
  • Adhere to hotel policies including attendance, safety, and behavior

Two years’ experience as a barista or food server in a full-service restaurant is preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be able to stand and move quickly for 6-8 hours. Ability to lift up to 15 lbs regularly, and trays of up to 30 lbs frequently. Ability to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs occasionally. Good communication skills required. All employees must maintain a professional appearance.

Background requirements:

  • Legal, unrestricted ability to work in the U.S.
  • Food Service Handler Card and TIPS certification valid for at least 6 months
  • Preferred: 1-2 years’ experience in a full-service restaurant or lounge
