Job summary

Gateway Regional Medical Center is seeking a Bariatric Program Coordinator (RN or Clinical Dietitian) to lead an accredited bariatric surgery program in Granite City, IL. The role focuses on coordinating clinical care, education, and patient advocacy for transformative weight-management journeys.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing OR an ACEND-accredited Nutrition and Dietetics program required.
  • Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) License OR Illinois Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) required.
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential required for Dietitian applicants.
  • Current BLS Certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross) required.
  • ACLS Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience required.
  • Knowledge of MBSAQIP standards, patient education, and multidisciplinary care coordination preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations and clinical coordination of the bariatric surgery program while ensuring an exceptional patient experience and accreditation compliance.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between patients, bariatric surgeons, providers, dietitians, behavioral health professionals, and multidisciplinary care teams.
  • Educate patients and families on bariatric surgery, nutrition, lifestyle changes, pre-operative preparation, and post-operative care.
  • Coordinate appointments, diagnostic testing, referrals, support groups, and educational resources throughout the bariatric journey.
  • Monitor program outcomes, quality metrics, and accreditation requirements to ensure MBSAQIP and other standards are met.
  • Collaborate with physicians and leadership to improve patient outcomes, program growth, and operational excellence.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and patient records within the EMR.
  • Provide compassionate guidance, encouragement, and ongoing support to help patients achieve lifelong success.

What You'll Do

As the Bariatric Program Coordinator, you'll oversee the daily operations and clinical coordination of the bariatric surgery program while ensuring an exceptional patient experience and compliance with accreditation standards.

Your Responsibilities Will Include
  • Coordinating all aspects of the bariatric surgery program from initial consultation through long-term follow-up
  • Serving as the primary liaison between patients, bariatric surgeons, providers, dietitians, behavioral health professionals, and interdisciplinary care teams
  • Educating patients and families on bariatric surgery, nutrition, lifestyle changes, pre-operative preparation, and post-operative care
  • Coordinating appointments, diagnostic testing, referrals, support groups, and educational resources throughout the patient's bariatric journey
  • Monitoring program outcomes, quality metrics, and accreditation requirements to ensure compliance with MBSAQIP and other regulatory standards
  • Collaborating with physicians and leadership to improve patient outcomes, program growth, and operational excellence
  • Maintaining accurate documentation and patient records within the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Providing compassionate guidance, encouragement, and ongoing support to help patients achieve lifelong success
What We're Looking For
Education & Licensure
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing OR an ACEND-accredited Nutrition and Dietetics program required
  • Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) License OR Illinois Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) required
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential required for Dietitian applicants
Certifications

Experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience required
  • Previous experience in bariatric services, surgery, nutrition, weight management, care coordination, or case management preferred
  • Knowledge of MBSAQIP standards, patient education, and multidisciplinary care coordination preferred
  • Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and patient education skills
  • Passion for improving patient outcomes through compassionate, evidence-based care
