Job description

The University of Pittsburgh School of Law invites applications for a one-year visiting position as Clinical Assistant Professor of Law to serve as the Supervising Attorney of the Family Law Clinic. The appointment will begin on July 1, 2025. The Family Law Clinic's mission is twofold: to serve the educational needs of our students by providing hands-on legal experience and to provide legal advocacy before the Allegheny County Family Division's Pro Se Motions Court for low-income families.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching: Teach clinic-related courses and seminars focused on family law and supervise second- and third-year law students as they represent clients.
  • Student Supervision: Guide students in their representation of clients and in providing educational presentations to the community.
  • Administrative: Manage the clinic's day-to-day operations, including case supervision, community outreach, and administrative duties.
  • Community Engagement: Foster relationships with community partners and engage in outreach efforts to enhance the clinic's impact in the Pittsburgh region.

Qualifications:

  • J.D. with admission to practice law in Pennsylvania, with demonstrated experience in family law, or a related field.
  • Strong preference for candidates with clinical teaching experience or student supervision in a legal setting.
  • A deep understanding of the legal needs of low-income clients and a commitment to community-based legal practice.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with students, clients, and interdisciplinary partners (e.g., social workers, healthcare professionals).
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for diverse students and clients.
