Job summary

GEO Corrections & Detentions is seeking a professional barber to provide grooming services for clients in a correctional setting. The role focuses on hair cuts, shaves, and maintaining cleanliness of tools and work area.

The Barber will wet hair, shampoo, shape and trim hair, shave and style facial hair, and ensure proper sterilization of tools. Experience in correctional environments is preferred. This is a full-time on-site position.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• College coursework in behavioral sciences or related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

• The Barber provides haircuts and shaves.
• The Barber wets hair to prepare for cutting.
• Shampoos hair.
• The Barber shapes, trims and tapers or blocks hair.
• Shaves, trims, and styles facial hair to meet client’s desired look.
• The Barber massages neck and scalp.
• Orders supplies.
• The Barber ensures tools and area are clean and sterilized as appropriate.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• The Barber wets hair to prepare for cutting.
• Shampoos hair.
• The Barber shapes, trims and tapers or blocks hair.
• Shaves, trims, and styles facial hair to meet client's desired look.
• The Barber massages neck and scalp.
• Orders supplies.
• The Barber ensures tools and area are clean and sterilized as appropriate.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
• College coursework and advanced training in behavioral sciences, correctional services or related field preferred. Training in cultural diversity or sensitivity preferred.
• Possession of applicable state requisites for employment.
• Ability to work overtime as required.
• Ability to handle physical and mental stress associated with working extended hours.
• Must be able to regularly report to work without being late.
• Ability to be physically alert on any shift that is assigned.
• Ability to work up to sixteen (16) hours within a rolling twenty-four (24) hour period.
• Work experience in a correctional setting preferred.
• May be required to possess valid state driver's license.
• Must be mature, flexible, able to command the respect and confidence of inmates or detainees and staff and possess a high tolerance to mental stress.
• Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
