Job summary

The Atterbury Hotel, managed by Sage Hospitality Group, is looking for a Bar Back to support bartenders and the service team. Keep the bar stocked, clean, and ready throughout service while helping ensure beverage execution stays fast and accurate for guests.

Under general supervision, you will replenish liquor, beer, wine, mixers, ice, glassware, and garnishes; maintain drafts and beverage stations; and assist with opening, closing, and sidework.

Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a restaurant, bar, or service role preferred.
  • Must meet state and federal minimum age requirements for handling and serving alcohol.
  • Basic knowledge of bar operations, beverage products, and hospitality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Support bartenders by stocking and replenishing liquor, beer, wine, mixers, ice, glassware, and garnishes throughout service.
  • Maintain ice levels, keg changes, draft lines, and beverage stations so the bar stays ahead of volume during peak periods.
  • Complete assigned opening, closing, cleaning, and restocking sidework to ensure service readiness.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bar, service wells, back bar, coolers, and storage areas, clearing glassware, trash, and recycling promptly throughout service.
  • Prepare garnishes, juices, and batched mixers to recipe, and label, date, and rotate product according to standards.
  • Follow all responsible alcohol service, safety, and sanitation guidelines in compliance with company standards and local regulations.
  • Respond to guest inquiries or comments in a professional and courteous manner, escalating concerns to the bartender or leadership as appropriate.
  • Support the bar and restaurant team during peak service periods with urgency and a collaborative mindset.
  • Attend pre-meal and departmental meetings to stay informed on menu, beverage, and service expectations.
  • Maintains a friendly, cheerful, and courteous demeanor at all times.
  • Exhibits a kind, welcoming, detail-oriented approach with a strong sense of urgency.

Job Overview

Keep all bar/lounge equipment and supplies at the proper level throughout all hours of operation in order to ensure proper service to all guests.

Responsibilities

POSITION FOCUS

Under general supervision, support bartenders and the service team by keeping the bar stocked, clean, and ready throughout service. The Bar Back plays a critical role in the speed and consistency of beverage execution, ensuring product, ice, glassware, and garnish are always in place so bartenders can stay in front of guests. This role requires anticipation, hustle, and pride in supporting others. They are an ambassador of happiness and hospitality for all guests and associates.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Knowledge/Skills
  • Basic knowledge of bar operations, beverage products, and hospitality standards.
  • Must have vision ability to clearly see tickets, product labels, written instructions, and survey the bar in dimly lit conditions.
  • Must have manual coordination to handle glassware, operate bar equipment, and carry cases, kegs, and loaded trays.
Physical Demands

  • Lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying up to 50 lbs. including kegs, cases of product, ice bins, glass racks, and small equipment up to 75% of the time.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and kneeling to retrieve product from low storage, stock coolers, and restock wells.
  • Mobility - full range of mobility with the ability to travel up to 300 feet on a regular basis during the shift.
  • Continuous standing and walking throughout the shift.
  • Must have hearing ability to communicate with guests, supervisors, and staff.
  • Must have vision ability to ensure product and service standards are met.
  • Must be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must be able to use tact and understanding when dealing with a variety of guest service problems, including stressful and emotional situations.
Environment
  • Physically demanding role with prolonged standing, walking, lifting, and carrying in an indoor bar and restaurant environment, including exposure to wet, cold, and noisy conditions.
