Mayahuel in Houston is hiring a Barback to support bartenders and keep the bar clean, stocked, and ready for fast, high-volume service, ensuring smooth shifts. You will handle glassware, restock supplies, assist during peak times, and help maintain a safe, sanitary work area.

Qualifications

Job Summary

A Barback plays an essential role in supporting bartenders and ensuring efficient bar operations throughout each shift. This position is responsible for keeping the bar clean, organized, stocked, and prepared to provide fast and exceptional service to our guests. The ideal candidate is energetic, dependable, team-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Barbacks should anticipate the needs of the bar team, maintain a clean and safe workspace, and assist wherever needed to ensure a seamless guest experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Stock and replenish liquor, beer, wine, mixers, garnishes, glassware, ice, and other bar supplies throughout the shift.

Assist bartenders with maintaining an organized and fully stocked bar.

Refill ice bins, coolers, refrigerators, and service stations as needed.

Collect, wash, polish, and properly store glassware and bar equipment.

Remove empty bottles, trash, recycling, and other debris from bar and service areas.

Maintain cleanliness and organization of bar tops, wells, sinks, coolers, storage areas, and surrounding workspaces.

Prepare garnishes and basic bar supplies according to established standards.

Assist with opening and closing duties, including stocking, cleaning, organizing, and resetting the bar.

Monitor inventory levels during service and communicate restocking needs to bartenders or management.

Support bartenders and other Team Members during high-volume periods to maintain efficient service.

Follow all company policies, recipes, sanitation procedures, food safety requirements, and responsible alcohol-service standards.

Maintain knowledge of the restaurant's layout, products, and service expectations.

Communicate effectively with bartenders, servers, management, and other Team Members.

Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude while working with guests and fellow Team Members.

Perform additional duties as assigned by management based on operational needs.

Qualifications

Previous restaurant, bar, hospitality, or high-volume service experience preferred but not required.

Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.

Ability to anticipate needs and prioritize multiple responsibilities.

Must meet all applicable age requirements for the position.

Must obtain and maintain any required food handler and/or alcohol-service certifications as required by state or local regulations.

Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other peak business periods as needed.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

Ability to frequently bend, reach, push, pull, and carry supplies.

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, including cases, kegs, ice, and other bar supplies.

Ability to safely work around wet surfaces, glassware, cleaning products, and standard bar equipment.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that may include elevated noise levels and frequent movement.
