Bar Support Staff Position Summary:

The Bar Support Staff is crucial to creating and maintaining a well-organized and functioning bar. The Bar Support Staff assists in cleaning the bar, preparing garnishes, ensuring the bar is well-stocked with napkins, straws, glassware, garnishes, and all other necessities, and taking on other duties to support the bartender and ensure that the bar operates smoothly. They should be knowledgeable about menu items, attentive, and focused on providing the best possible service in a fast-paced environment.

To be successful, bar support team members should be passionate about working as part of a team to deliver excellent drinks and service to customers. They should be efficient, reliable, and perceptive with excellent communication and time management skills.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ensure that all bar areas are set up properly for opening, including stocking ice, glassware, and supplies.
  • Maintain the bar and lounge areas in a neat and orderly condition at all times, including cleaning spills and removing empty glasses.
  • Work with a sense of urgency to anticipate customer needs and other team members, proactively assisting bartenders.
  • Replenish ice as needed/requested, ensuring ice bins are always full.
  • Ensure all bartenders have sufficient supplies throughout the shift, including liquor, mixers, and garnishes.
  • Perform all opening and closing duties as assigned, such as cleaning bar surfaces, restocking, and taking inventory.
  • Maintain cleanliness of stations with necessary equipment including stocking and polishing glassware.
  • Preparation of all batching and bottling of beverages and syrups for cocktails, following established recipes and procedures.
  • Prepping all garnish (including cutting produce, herbs, etc.) ensures freshness and quality.
  • Must be able to read and follow recipes to ensure quality of production, must have the ability to multitask and have good verbal and written communication skills.

Reporting Structure:

The Bar Support Staff reports directly to the Lead Bartender or Head Bartender. In the absence of a Lead or Head Bartender, they may report to the Assistant General Manager, or General Manager. They may also receive direction from bartenders and other front-of-house staff as needed This structure ensures clear communication and task delegation during service.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2+ years experience in a similar capacity, preferably in a high-volume bar or restaurant.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, high volume environment, and maintain a calm demeanor while quickly and effectively solving problems.
  • Must be hospitable, approachable, and passionate about guest service and respectful towards colleagues and guests.
  • Must be able to demonstrate competency as outlined in the training schedule.
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts and schedules, including weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to take direction, work in a team environment, and work autonomously.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to seize, grasp, turn, and hold objects with hands.
  • Must be able to make periodical fast-paced movements and move throughout the venue with ease.
  • Must be able to move, pull, carry, or lift at least 20lbs.
  • Must be able to occasionally kneel, bend, crouch, and climb as required.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities such as lifting, cleaning, and stooping
