Overview
A Bar Back maintains clean glassware, displayed in a safe manner, ensuring that all equipment is continuously cleaned after each use. This associate works as part of a team to provide friendly, efficient service in a professional manner, ensuring that the guest receives immediate attention.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
- Maintain pars of supplies at the bar by being responsible for the stocking of ice, paper products, to-go cups, glassware, china for menu items, roll-ups, etc.
- Keep the bartender informed of items to be ordered regularly, anticipating business needs to prevent shortages.
- Acknowledge guests if the bartender is with another guest, and relay guest orders to the bartender.
- Respond to all requests from bartenders for priorities and assistance.
- Bring bar food from the kitchen to the bar for the bartender to serve or to direct you to place.
- Assist in setting up bar wells when needed.
- Cut bar fruit daily as needed.
- Check all glassware for chips, spots, prints, soap residue, lipstick, etc.
- Assist in clearing the bar by returning all used plates and silverware to the dish room as guests finish.
- Rinse blenders and other equipment after use.
- Rotate stock as needed. Pour wines independently with bartender approval.
- Know where all bar items are stored and maintain proper storage with organization and cleanliness.
- Understand and comply with all company, city, and state liquor laws.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Report to the head bartender upon arrival, before breaks, and before leaving.
- Check the schedule for any changes and stay informed of all posted memos.
- Complete all assigned sidework prior to, during, and after shifts.
- Assist other team members in the restaurant, decks, and raw bar/sushi bar as needed.
- Work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, as required for long hours.
- Stock all beverage items daily.
- Assist bartenders with stocking tasks.
- Maintain cleanliness standards in the front of the house to ensure high-quality products.
- Interact courteously and professionally with colleagues and guests.
- Exceed guest expectations at all times.
- Report unsafe work conditions, practices, and violations of safety/security policies.
- Create a “WOW” guest experience through friendly and professional interaction.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning on all bar equipment.
- Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of equipment daily for cleanliness.
- Manage time and productivity according to business volume.
- Report necessary repairs to the bar manager.
- Transport glasses, ice, bottles, kegs, and other inventories continuously.
- Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Comply with all liquor laws at the company, city, and state levels.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Good communication skills in English, both speaking and understanding.
- Speed, accuracy, attention to detail, courtesy, and anticipation of guest needs.
- Willingness to work long hours on your feet in high-pressure environments, handling multiple tasks.
- Good physical condition to bend, reach overhead, push, pull, and handle repetitive hand/wrist movements; occasional temperature changes from refrigeration.
- Ability to follow directions carefully.
- Must be over 21 years old.
Experience & Education
- At least 1 year of experience in a mid to high volume outlet.
- Knowledge of beverages, wines, and spirits is helpful.
- High school diploma required.
