Job summary

One Twenty Three Tavern in Grand Rapids is seeking experienced Bar Backs who love creating a fun, memorable guest experience. You will stock bar, assist bartenders, prep garnishes, and maintain a clean, safe service area.

You should be a team player with strong communication, able to work nights, weekends and holidays. Certifications in food safety or alcohol training are a plus. This role offers flexible schedules and a supportive, vibrant atmosphere with future growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of beer, wine and spirits.
• Strong verbal communication and listening skills.
• Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced setting.
• Certification in food safety and alcohol training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests with a friendly demeanor and assist bartenders.
• Set up, maintain and operate the bar during service.
• Keep bar area clean, safe and sanitary and stock supplies.
• Prepare garnishes and set up mixers and pre-mixed drinks.
• Ensure ID checks and responsible alcohol service.

At One Twenty Three Tavern, we are looking for experienced Bar Backs that love to create a fun and memorable experience for our guests. Our soul is that of a neighborhood restaurant. A place where picky eaters and meticulous foodies find common ground. Where friends grab a drink, then another drink, then a small plate or three—and forget what time it is. Where the atmosphere is as warm as the dish that just came out of the kitchen.

Our Bar Backs play a key role at One Twenty Three, serving a variety of guests, whether meeting for happy hour, dining or stopping by for a drink and appetizer before the show.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

• Greet and engage with all guests in a friendly, positive manner
• Helps sets-up, maintain and operate the bar
• Maintains safe, secure and sanitary bar area and equipment
• Adheres to standardized recipes and department rules and procedures
• Prepares garnishes to ensure freshness and quality, set up mixers, and pre-mixed drinks
• Follows cleaning checklists on a daily basis
• Ensure all guests have proper ID, are over 21 years of age, and that drinks are not served to intoxicated patrons
• Help keep bar stocked and organized as requested by bartenders
• Keeps clean dishes caught up and stocked through volume shift
• Mix, prepare, and serve drinks according to recipes
• Help clean the bar at the end of the night according to procedures
• Stock glasses, liquors, beers, and wines
• Other duties as assigned by management

QUALIFICATIONS and/or EXPERIENCE

• Basic knowledge of beer, wine and spirits and standard drink recipes required
• Strong verbal communication and listening skills
• Self-starter who is energetic and flexible
• Certifications for Food Safety and Alcohol training certificate preferred
• Able to work under pressure, multi-task, follow directions, and work with a team
• Can thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Friendly, outgoing, and a team player
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required
• Ability to be on your feet and active for 8 or more hours, climb stairs, lift up to 40lbs, and use basic cleaning equipment
