Job summary

The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa in Houston, TX seeks an experienced line cook to support the kitchen team in producing high‑quality meats, fish, fowl and other items. You will follow recipes, maintain sanitation and work calmly under pressure, contributing to the luxury standard and guest experience.

Requirements include 3–5 years in a quality restaurant/hotel, a TABC certificate and Food Handlers Certification; high school education preferred. Hours vary by department needs.

Qualifications

• High school education is preferred but not required.
• Must have 3–5 years previous cooking experience in an upper tiered restaurant and/or hotel.
• Hours required: Scheduled days and hours vary based on departmental needs.

Responsibilities

• Prepares all foods in accordance to standard recipes. Visually inspects, selects and uses only food items of the highest quality in the preparation of all menu items.
• Checks and controls the proper storage of product and portion control including food rotation.
• Keeps all refrigeration, storage and working areas in clean working condition to comply with health department and hotel regulations.
• Ensures all equipment is clean and in proper working condition.
• Reads and employs basic math skills to appropriately prepare items according to recipes.
• Strong working knowledge on all cooking techniques, butchering, sauces, vinaigrettes and garde manger.
• Strong working knowledge of elevated standards of sanitation.
• Knowledge of operating all kitchen equipment, i.e., stoves, ovens, broilers, slicers, steamers, kettles, etc.
• Ability to remain calm and composed under stressful situations.
• Ability to read, write and understand the English language in order to read tickets, recipes and communicate with other employees.
• Ability to perform duties within extreme temperature ranges.
• Other duties as assigned.
