The Cambria Hotel in Detroit is expanding and looking for a dynamic and energetic Banquet server to join our team!

The Cambria Hotel in Detroit features upscale amenities that appeal to modern travelers.

Our hotel provides contemporary and sophisticated guest rooms, complete with modern fixtures, abundant lighting, plush bedding, and spa‑style bathrooms with Bluetooth mirrors. Our property features multiple upscale food and beverage options, flexible meeting and event spaces, and a state‑of‑the‑art fitness center all designed in a modern art deco style with a local Detroit flare.

Job Summary

As a Banquet Server, you will play a crucial role in delivering exceptional service to guests during events, weddings, conferences, and other banquet functions. Your primary responsibility will be to provide efficient and professional food and beverage service while maintaining a high level of guest satisfaction. This position requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Event Setup and Preparation:
  • Assist the banquet house person with the setup and arrangement of banquet and event spaces according to provided specifications and floor plans.
  • Ensure that tables, chairs, linens, tableware, and other necessary items are properly organized and in place prior to guest arrival.
  • Verify the accuracy of the room setup and promptly report any discrepancies to the banquet house person.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Guest Service:
  • Welcome guests upon their arrival, provide warm and friendly greetings and assist with seating arrangements as directed.
  • Take accurate food and beverage orders and accommodate special dietary requests or restrictions.
  • Serve guests in a timely and professional manner, ensuring accuracy in delivering the correct items to the appropriate guests.
  • Respond promptly to guest inquiries, provide information about the event or venue, and address any concerns or issues that may arise.
  • Maintain a positive and attentive attitude, actively anticipating the needs of our guests and ensuring a memorable dining experience.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Food and Beverage Service:
  • Ensure proper handling and presentation of food and beverages, adhering to established company service standards and protocols.
  • Serve plated meals, buffet‑style spreads, or passed hors d’oeuvres, following specified order and sequence of service.
  • Monitor tables throughout the event, promptly removing used dishes, glassware, and utensils to maintain a clean and organized environment.
  • Refill beverages and water glasses, offer bread or additional items as required, and ensure guest satisfaction with their dining experience.
  • Assist with the setup and operation of beverage stations, ensuring an ample supply of drinks and refreshments are available throughout the entire event.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Event Coordination and Collaboration:
  • Communicate effectively with the banquet house person, culinary team, and other staff members to ensure seamless event execution.
  • Coordinate timing and service flow with the kitchen staff to ensure the timely delivery of food courses and beverages.
  • Collaborate with the banquet coordinator to address last‑minute changes, guest requests, or additional service requirements.
  • Assist with the breakdown and cleanup of banquet areas after each event, including proper storage of equipment and supplies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Safety and Compliance:
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring that all equipment and supplies are handled safely and stored appropriately.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or incidents to the appropriate supervisor immediately.
Required Skills / Abilities
  • Practice exceptional customer service skills and always behave in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with guests, colleagues, and event organizers.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering accurate and precise service.
  • Flexibility in working hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Knowledge of food and beverage service techniques is an asset.
  • Certification in food handling or similar training is a plus.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience as a banquet or event server or in a similar role is preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
  • Physical stamina to stand and walk for extended periods, lift and carry heavy trays, and perform other duties as required.
