Role Description

The Banquet & Events Director is a full-time, on-site role based at Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans, LA. This role oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of all club banquets and events, including member functions, private parties, and regatta social events. Daily responsibilities include meeting with clients to understand event needs, preparing event proposals, managing event timelines, coordinating room layouts, and ensuring all audiovisual and décor requirements are met. The Banquet & Events Director works closely with the clubhouse manager, executive chef, and banquet team to plan menus, staffing levels, and service standards, while supervising event setup, execution, and breakdown. Additional duties include managing event budgets, tracking revenue, driving event sales, maintaining event calendars, and ensuring each event adheres to club policies, safety standards, and quality expectations.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated skills in Event Planning and Event Management to oversee banquets and special events from concept through completion.
• Ability to manage Budgeting responsibilities, including cost control, forecasting, and maximizing event profitability.
• Strong Communication skills to collaborate with members, clients, vendors, and internal teams and to resolve issues promptly.
• Experience in Sales related to events, including proposals, and converting inquiries into confirmed bookings.
• Previous leadership experience in hospitality, private clubs, hotels, or catering environments.
• Proven ability to supervise teams, schedule staff, and maintain high service standards during multiple concurrent events.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to work under time-sensitive conditions.
• Proficiency with event management software, POS systems, and basic office tools (e.g., spreadsheets, word processing, email).
• Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the event schedule.
• Relevant education or training in hospitality management, event management, or a related field is preferred.
