Job summary

Banner Health is seeking a Labor and Delivery Surgical Technologist for North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, CO. The role includes selecting and placing surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgery, scrubbing in, and assisting the surgeon with instruments and sutures in a fast-paced OR.

Position requires high school diploma/GED, BLS, and state registration where applicable. Registry/Per Diem with flexible shifts and regular orientation provided; pay range listed and benefits

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent; basic life support certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares for surgical procedures by pulling appropriate instruments and supplies and ensuring instruments are in good working order.
• Anticipates the surgeon's needs by passing instruments, retracting tissue, and operating equipment during surgery.
• Demonstrates aseptic technique and universal precautions; disposes of sharps and trash and prepares supplies for processing.
• Keeps surgeon preference cards and pick lists accurate for cases.
• Assists with OR turnover between cases and replenishes supplies; cleans operating rooms.
• Performs additional department administrative tasks as assigned.
• Follows safety procedures for medication labeling, specimen handling, sharps, time-outs, radiation and laser safety; participates in emergency call rotation.

As a Labor and Delivery Surgical Technologist, you will choose and arrange surgical tools, supplies, and equipment during surgery. Scrub techs are the first team members to scrub in and give sponges, dressings, and instruments to the doctor as needed during the procedure. Scrubs and provides instruments, sutures, and other sterile supplies during surgical procedure.CORE FUNCTIONS1. Prepares for surgical procedures. Pulls appropriate instruments and supplies and ensures good working order of instruments. Reviews case carts for correct instruments and supplies. Plans ahead for upcoming surgical case needs.2. Anticipates the surgeon's needs. Passes instruments, retracts tissue and operates equipment during surgery.3. Demonstrates the principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout the procedure. Disposes of sharps and trash and places used supplies into case cart for processing. Participates in counting of sharps, instruments and sponges. Prepares instruments for cleaning following each case.4. Ensures that all surgeon preference cards and pick lists are accurate.5. Assists with OR turnover between cases. Participates in stocking, replenishing supplies and cleaning operating rooms.6. May provide business support to the department including assigned administrative tasks.7. This position follows safety procedures in regards to medication labeling, appropriate handling of specimens, appropriate handling of sharps, time-out procedure, radiation and laser safety, infection control, assembling and disassembling instruments. Participates in emergency call rotation. Internal customers are patients, surgeons, and nursing staff. External customers may include practicing physicians and patient families.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge and current basic life support certification.Where applicable must be registered with State Regulatory AgencyThe position requires manual dexterity and the ability to maintain professional decorum in highly stressful emergent situations. The position requires the ability to be conscientious, organized, and orderly and the ability to respond quickly to the needs of the surgeon and patient.Must stay abreast of new developments in the field.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSGraduation from a certified school of surgical technology or two years of operating room experience.Additional related education and/or experience preferred.Estimated Pay Range:$23.62 - $35.44 / hour Banner Health is committed to pay equity and transparency.
