Position Overview

The Bankruptcy Auditor/Financial Analyst (BAFA) is responsible for professional accounting, auditing analysis, and investigative work related to bankruptcy cases assigned to one or more Program offices. The role involves analytical and investigative tasks requiring expertise in accounting, financial analysis, investigative techniques, and corporate business practices, especially in complex bankruptcy cases under applicable laws, including Chapter 7 and Chapter 11.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Examine corporate structures, assets, liabilities, management competence, income, and expenditures to assess the debtor’s operational viability.
  2. Assist counsel in reviewing and analyzing bankruptcy case documents submitted by debtors for accuracy and completeness.
  3. Perform technical reviews of reports and assist in analyzing bankruptcy cases managed by trustees, ensuring compliance with standards.
  4. Review trustee audits performed by Public Accountants to identify weaknesses and recommend corrective actions.
  5. Monitor trustee accounting statements to ensure bond requirements are met and provide recommendations.
  6. Perform additional legal, accounting, financial, investigative, and research tasks as directed by the United States Trustee or designee.
  7. Prepare reports and work products for each assignment for submission to the appropriate authorities.
Minimum Requirements

The following qualifications are required for respective position levels:

Certifications (must have at least one):
  • Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor (CIRA)
  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

  • Minimum Experience: 1 year
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree
Bankruptcy Auditor / Financial Analyst II (Intermediate Level)
  • Minimum Experience: 5 years
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree (required), Graduate degree (preferred)
Bankruptcy Auditor / Financial Analyst III (Senior Level)
  • Minimum Experience: 10 years
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree (required), Graduate degree (preferred)
Bankruptcy Auditor / Financial Analyst IV (Expert Level)
  • Minimum Experience: 15 years (required), 20 years (preferred)
  • Minimum Education: Graduate level degree
