The South Dakota Division of Banking is seeking an inquisitive Financial Institution Examiner in Sioux Falls to assess the financial condition of licensed companies, evaluate internal controls, and ensure compliance with state and federal statutes. This is a full-time, on-site position.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in trust, banking, finance, or accounting (advanced degree preferred) and strong communication and analytical skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in trust, banking, finance, or accounting; advanced degree preferred.
• Professional experience in financial regulation and reporting is advantageous.
• Strong written and verbal communication and analytical abilities.
• Ability to interpret and apply state and federal statutes and regulations.

Responsibilities

• determine the financial condition of licensed companies.
• evaluate adequacy of company internal control procedures.
• determine compliance with State and Federal statutes.
• evaluate investment portfolios and decision-making to determine suitability.
• review and evaluate the oversight and governance structure of companies.
• make recommendations on findings.
• investigate consumer complaints related to supervised companies.
