Job summary

Responsibilities

• Process customer account transactions and service deposits/payments
• Cash checks, issue savings withdrawals, and record night/mail deposits
• Sell cashier’s checks, gift cards, pre-paid cards, and money orders
• Answer questions in person or by phone and refer customers to bank services
• Log transactions and reconcile cash drawer; ensure security procedures are followed
• Cross-sell bank products and respond to customer needs with appropriate solutions
• Open/close accounts and handle special requests as needed
• Maintain currency supply and assist in dual-control and audits

The standard duties of a bank teller include but are not limited to:

• Serves customers by completing account transactions.
• Provides account services to customers by receiving deposits and loan payments, cashing checks, issuing savings withdrawals, and recording night and mail deposits.
• Sells cashier’s checks, gift cards, pre-paid cards and money orders.
• Answers questions in person or on telephone and refer customers to other bank services as necessary.
• Records transactions by logging cashier’s checks and other special services; preparing currency transaction reports.
• Cross sells bank products by answering inquiries, informing customers of new services and product promotions, ascertaining customers’ needs, and directing customers to a branch representative.
• Completes special requests by opening and closing accounts, taking orders for checks, exchanging foreign currencies, completing safe-deposit box procedures, and providing special statements, copies, and referrals.
• Reconciles cash drawer by proving cash transactions, counting and packaging currency and coins.
• Reconciles other transactions.
• Maintains supply of cash and currency and turns in excess cash and mutilated currency to head teller.
• Complies with bank operations and security procedures by participating in all dual-control functions, auditing other tellers’ currency, and assisting in certification of proof.
• Maintains customer confidence and protects bank operations by keeping information confidential.
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Basic job requirements include but are not limited to:

• Must be able to type, use computer systems, read, and write.
• May need to be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
• Use hands, fingers and have dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, calculator, 10-key, telephone and other necessary equipment.
• Ability to reach with hands and arms, walk, stand, sit, kneel, and crouch.
• Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Must be able to lift and carry files, documents, teller drawer, coin, etc.
