The Position

Our bank client in the greater Chicago, IL area is seeking a Bank Controller. The responsibilities include:

• Financial reporting to the Board of Directors, regulatory authorities, and internal management.
• Development of Accounting Department staff and ensuring compliance with accounting procedures and internal controls.
• Establishing and maintaining an accounting system reflecting the bank's financial position.
• Overseeing supervision of Accounting Staff.

This position offers a salary up to $175K, a full benefits package, and potential bonus eligibility. (This is not a remote position)

Bank Controller Responsibilities

• Financial analysis, reporting, cash management, and forecasting.
• Cost control strategy implementation and monitoring.
• Budget preparation and variance analysis.
• Staff training, coaching, and professional development.
• Reporting financial results to the Board and regulatory authorities.
• Guidance on accounting procedures and regulatory compliance to maximize profitability.
• Coordination of annual budgets with department managers aligned with strategic financial goals.
• Analysis of asset/liability management, product pricing, branch profitability, and peer comparisons.
• Advising management on tax law or regulation changes affecting operations.
• Participation in audits and examinations, providing required documentation.
• Monitoring daily cash position and loan loss reserves.
• Ensuring compliance with GAAP and bank policies.
• Adhering to the Bank’s policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
• Performing additional duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; MBA or CPA preferred.
• At least 10 years of accounting experience in a financial institution, with staff supervision.

• Experience with policies and procedures at a community bank preferred.
• Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze information effectively.
• Solid understanding of bookkeeping, accounting principles, laws, and regulations.
