Job summary

International Paper seeks a Bander/Wrapper for the night shift in Salem, OR. You will operate the packaging line, prepare finished goods for storage, and ensure compliance with HACCP/SQF standards.

Function

The Bander/Wrapper reports directly Production Supervisor for machine operation.

JOB DUTIES
  • The Bander/Wrapper operator is responsible for all aspects of preparing finished product for storage and/or shipping. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: performing work in a safe manner at all times, maintains a clean work environment, ensures all product packaging meets all food safety and quality standards, and accurately reports packaging material consumption. The Bander/Wrapper operator works closely with shipping to ensure established inventory management practices are followed. The Bander/Wrapper operator is responsible for meeting established production rates. The Bander/Wrapper operator is responsible for completing assigned preventative maintenance tasks on the machine, as well as notifying the production supervisor of machine issues. This position also provides assistance to the Endclosure operation.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties
  • All employees are responsible and accountable for Food Safety as directed by HACCP and the SQF code for Food Packaging Manufacturers.
  • Performing all duties safely following EHS procedures to include: PPE, ECP, PIT/PED safety.
  • Comply with this facility’s environmental policy and environmental management system.
  • Responsible for participating in food safety with their fellow team members.
  • Check and verify equipment is clean and prepared for food safe product. Clean if necessary.
  • Arriving/leaving workstation on time and taking breaks when authorized. Attend shift meetings.
  • Must correctly use cover sheets, and perform proper quality checks prior to strapping. Must be able to correctly and safely stretch wrap pallets.
  • Must be able to safely load poly-strapping and stretch wrap.
  • Operate powered industrial truck to transport materials as needed (pallets, stretch wrap, corrugated).
  • Put units into inventory, and accurately logs product into proper inventory location.
  • To be able to identify any quality defects and make any changes quickly to prevent waste.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and be able to prioritize duties to keep the conveyor lines moving.
  • Must perform routine maintenance and general housekeeping. Be able to maintain housekeeping to SQF standard.
Performance Measurements
  1. Work is done at a rate that meets performance expectation.
  2. Incoming/outgoing material is labeled and inventoried correctly.
  3. Inventory records are accurately reported using Inventory Control Program
  4. Area is keep clean and sanitary per SOP and housekeeping standards
  5. Daily GMP tasks are completed, documented and signed.

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:
  • High school degree or GED (or equivalent experience) preferred
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment preferred
  • Prior experience in the corrugated manufacturing industry or food manufacturing industry highly preferred
  • Stable work history and good attendance record
