Request to Recruit Working Title Band Staff, Color Guard Instructor Location Boone, NC Position Number N38900 Department School Of Music - 270000 Position Summary Information Minimum Qualifications Two or more years experience in color guard leadership at the university, DCI , or WGI levels. Experience writing guard work and choreography. Undergraduate degree required. License/Certification Required N/A Essential Job Functions Work in collaboration with the Associate Director of Bands/Director of the Marching Mountaineers including:
- Attend all Band Camp rehearsals, beginning typically 10-12 days before the first day of class. 13 hours/day
- Attend scheduled marching band class rehearsals; 4 hrs. per week.
- Attend game day rehearsals. 1.5 hours each game day.
- Write flag and rifle work for pregame and 3 halftime shows.
- Coordinate additional color guard sectionals as needed; 2 hrs. per week.
- Assist with supervision and coordination of game day, playoff, and bowl game performances. A typical game day includes Mountaineer Walk, Concert on the Lawn, Parade to the Stadium, and all performances associated with game day. 7 hours per game
- Responsible for the maintenance, inventory, and care of guard equipment.
- Oversee the proper security and storage of all equipment.
- Assist planning and run up to 3 clinics and 1 audition dates in the spring semester.
- Meet with the design team during show design meetings.
- Manage Social Media for the Color Guard.
- Administrative tasks as assigned by the Director of Bands and Associate Director of Bands
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Prior Experience performing for DCI / WGI /Large University guard and/or winter guard. Experience writing/teaching successful DCI / WGI /University/High School color guard and/or winter guard. Work Schedule/Hours TBD based on rehearsal, and football game schedules. This position will require up to 30 work hours per week in the fall semester and potential overtime during band camp. In the spring semester, up to 10 hours per week. Performances and rehearsals may have flexibility depending on the rehearsal and performance needs of Athletics.
