Job summary

J.O. Combs Unified School District #44 is seeking a Band Assistant for Combs High School. This seasonal, part-time role carries a stipend of $3,645 and reports to the Athletic Director, Principal and Superintendent.

You will support the program, ensure sportsmanship, manage equipment, and coordinate with students and staff under NFHS/AIA guidelines. Candidates must meet NFHS rules and possess a valid DPS fingerprint clearance.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Current DPS fingerprint clearance card required.
  • NFHSA certification and coach-related courses preferred.
  • Understanding district goals and program alignment.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate sportsmanship and respect for all participants.
  • Promote safe learning environments inside and outside the classroom.
  • Motivate students to participate and stay engaged in the program.
  • Work with diverse student groups and communities to build teamwork.
  • Maintain knowledge of AIA rules and regulations.
  • Oversee equipment inventory, selection, and care.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students and community.
  • Establish cooperative relationships with students, parents, staff, and administration.
  • Maintain good relations with media and boosters.
  • Communicate deadlines, fees, and academic requirements to families.
  • Follow ethical guidelines for coaches and discipline procedures.
  • Assist with scheduling, practices, facilities, transportation, and budget.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Athletic Director.

Reports to: Athletic Director/Principal/Superintendent
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Location: Combs High School

Must meet all of National High School Federation rules for coaches.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Valid, Current Department of Public Safety Level One IVP fingerprint clearance card.
  • National Federation of State High Schools Association (NFHSA) certification, including but not limited to Concussion Course, Fundamentals of Coach Course, Bullying, Hazing & Inappropriate Behaviors Course, AIA Information Course, and sport-specific courses
  • Understanding of an agreement with the District's goals of aprogram
  • Knowledge of coaching techniques and human behavior
  • Positive, effective communication skills in dealing with students, employees, parents and the community
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate proper sportsmanship and respect for peers, officials, opponents, fans, and other coaches.
  • Work with students to promote strong learning environments in and out of the classroom while providing a safe environment.
  • Ability to motivate students to participate and sustain their interest in the program.
  • Work effectively with students of varying abilities, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds to instill commitment, discipline, and teamwork.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and adhere to and keep abreast of AIA rules and regulations.
  • Assume responsibility for inventory, selection, and care of equipment.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students and the community.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, staff and school administration.
  • Maintain good public relations with the media, boosters, parent officials, players, fans, etc.
  • Communicate with parents, students, and school personnel regarding registration deadlines, fees, academic requirements, etc.
  • Adhere to all Ethical Guidelines for Coaches.
  • Apply discipline in a positive, firm, and consistent manner.
  • Provide requested information to school officials and AIA in a timely manner.
  • Assist with developing schedules, scheduling practices, facility use, transportation needs, and the program budget.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
