Band 5 Staff Nurse - Ambulatory Cancer Care Unit

As a Band 5 Staff Nurse within the Ambulatory Cancer Care Unit (Level 3), you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to patients undergoing systemic anti cancer treatments (SACT) and respective supportive care treatments such as blood product support for a range of oncology and haemato-oncology diagnoses.

Main duties of the job

* To be able to work autonomously and also as part of a multi-disciplinary team.* To provide efficient, effective, and evidence-based cancer nursing care to patients at the Clinic.* To be competent in the recognition of and response to life-threatening events and or oncological emergencies.* To organise workload, and develop skills to continually adapt in line with changing clinical priorities.* Uphold all infection prevention and control strategies, acknowledging the enhanced considerations which apply when caring for cancer patients.* Disseminate and display best clinical practice for nurses, students, and healthcare assistants with regard to the care and management of peripheral and central venous access devices and intravenous therapies.* To competently monitor and administer blood product transfusion therapy.* To become competent in the monitoring, administration and application of oral, subcutaneous and intravenous Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies including the use of supportive measures such as scalp cooling.* Network and coordinate with specialist practitioners and the multi-disciplinary team to ensure dissemination of holistic patient centred care.* Act as the patients advocate, engaging members of the MDT as required to escalate their concerns and optimise experience and outcomes.

You will be an integral member of the multidisciplinary cancer care team, working in conjunction with our consultants, pharmacists, clinical nurse specialists, and allied health professionals who collaborative efficiently to optimise clinical outcomes and the quality of life of those living with and affected by cancer. This role is ideal for a nurse who is passionate about cancer care and keen to develop the knowledge and skills to specialise in SACT delivery. You will be fully supported by our Clinical Practice Educator in Cancer Care with a comprehensive induction and structured training pathway to develop the fundamental skills and knowledge required for cancer nursing. You will receive training to become a competent intravenous therapy and chemotherapy nurse, and will be rewarded with ongoing opportunities for career progression upon successful attainment of your IV and Chemotherapy Passports. Job Type: This is a full-time, permanent position working 37.5 hours per week. Hours: No night or weekend shifts, just four long days (Monday to Friday, 8:30am-6:00pm), offering excellent work-life balance.     Person Specification
    Qualifications
    • * Registered Nurse with a valid NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) pin.
    Experience
    • * Experience in a clinical healthcare setting, preferably within an oncology or chemotherapy unit.
    • * Experience of administering or supporting the administration of chemotherapy or other systemic anti-cancer therapies.
    • * Understanding of the side effects of chemotherapy and management strategies.
    • * Knowledge of cancer treatments, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies
    • * Experience in an acute clinical healthcare setting, preferably within an acute medical or surgical specialty, oncology ward or chemotherapy unit
