Job summary

RRD is hiring for a material baler operator in Greensboro, NC. You will tend baling machinery to process paper by-products and prepare bales for shipment, while maintaining accurate weight records and daily forklift checks.

The role requires prior manufacturing experience and the ability to perform routine equipment adjustments, mentor teammates, and follow safety and procedural guidelines within a fast-paced print and packaging environment.

Qualifications

• 2 years of manufacturing experience.
• Knowledge of baling equipment settings and operation.
• Ability to perform basic equipment adjustments and routine maintenance.
• Training and mentoring new and existing employees to improve team performance.

Responsibilities

• Tend machines that shred, compress, and bind paper by-products.
• Thread tie bands around bale and tighten ends.
• Open chamber doors and remove bale from machine.
• Move bales to storage using air lifts, pallet jacks or hoist trucks.
• Complete daily forklift condition reports.
• Weigh bales and record gross weight and material grade.
• Perform routine baler maintenance and remove obstructions in cyclone as needed.
• Load bales on trucks/rail cars for disposal and complete shipping manifests.
• Photograph container and seal for verification purposes.

Job Description

• Tend machines that shred and/or compresses and binds paper by-products generated from the print manufacturing process to facilitate disposition of the waste materials
• Thread tie bands around bale and twists or clamps ends of bands to tighten bands
• Opens compression chamber doors and removes bale from machine
• Truck bales to storage location using air lifts, pallet jacks or hoist trucks
• Complete daily forklift condition report
• Weight the bales and keep records of the gross weight, materials grade of the bales
• Perform routine maintenance on the baling machinery and remove obstructions in the cyclone as needed
• May load bales on trucks, rail cars for disposal and complete shipping manifest
• May photograph container and seal for verification purposes

Qualifications

• 2 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment
• Requires knowledge of standard set ups, adjustments and operating characteristics of the equipment and skill to perform standard adjustments and operate the equipment
• Ability to set up, operate, and perform basic adjustments to the equipment according to the individual job requirements, operating characteristics, and capabilities of the equipment
• Training and mentoring new and existing employees, ensuring consistent knowledge of company policies, procedures, and best practices to improve team performance and productivity

The salary range for this role at the noted RRD location is $17.00 - $22.67 / hour. Starting pay decisions are determined based on multiple factors including but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, skills, experience, certifications, proficiency, performance, shift, location, and other business needs. Typically, roles follow step progressions to a target rate or set increments over time. Depending on the role, in addition to the hourly rate of pay, the total compensation package may also include overtime, shift differential, call-in, and/or stand-by pay.
