Base pay range

$16.50/hr - $21.45/hr

General Purpose

The Bakery Porter provides customer-friendly service to our valuable customers and maintains a clean and safe working environment as well as setting up all food products to be baked on the appropriate pans and racks. This means keeping all work areas, floors, equipment, and utensils in clean and orderly condition and having frozen product set up and ready for proofing or baking.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Bakery Manager, Assistant Manager, Supervisor

Job Description

• Ensure that customers receive the best customer service by providing friendly, polite, and knowledgeable service
• Greet customers personally and thank them appreciatively for shopping at Adams
• Answer the phone with a friendly greeting
• Be aware of sale items and pricing
• Set up all items to be baked in the morning on trays and racks
• Stretch, round and seed breads for bake-off
• Receive deliveries; check delivery ticket against what was ordered and product received
• Bag trash and dispose of it in the compactor and recycling
• Perform all daily and weekly cleaning duties, including cleaning the mixer, ingredient bins, ovens, proof box, and grease traps (age 18+ only)
• Operate dishwashing machines or wash items by hand
• If using dishwashing machine, monitor water temperature to ensure sanitary wash cycle
• Clean and sanitize equipment, preparation areas, and production areas as necessary during shift and at closing
• Keep all areas of the department clean and organized, including sales floor, counter, cases, coolers, preparation and production areas
• Clean dishes and equipment used and put them away once dry
• Clean and mop floors; keep work area floors clean and dry
• Keep all department storage areas clean and organized
• Make apple cider donuts (age 18+ only)
• Assist the rest of the staff as needed
• When a customer needs assistance, give the customer priority over the task at hand
  
  

Physical Requirements

Employee must be physically able to:

• Lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
• Stand for duration of shift
• Climb up and down a stepstool, stepladder, and ladder
• Use hands, wrists, fingers and arms for duration of shift
• Safely operate and use commercial dishwasher
• Use the compactor and cardboard crusher for disposing of garbage (age 18+ only)

• Communicate clearly with customers and coworkers

• Must work efficiently and at a productive pace per department needs
• Must be able to work scheduled shift
• Follow all department safety policies and procedures
• Be able to concentrate on tasks in order to avoid injury and waste of product
• Ability to read and comprehend labels on chemicals used for cleaning
• Be knowledgeable about Adams product – recommend ideas to customers by exploring customer preferences and advocating Adams product
