DEEPER THAN BAGELS.

Call Your Mother is the Jew-ish deli where Boca meets Brooklyn, grandma-level hospitality meets seriously good bagel sandwiches, and hard work meets face‑melting vibes.

Husband-and-wife team Andrew and Chef Dani built Call Your Mother around a simple idea: make scrumptious, nostalgic food and unforgettable experiences without being bougie or taking ourselves too seriously. From our first little farmer’s market stand in 2018, to shops across the DMV, Colorado, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Miami in 2026, we’re spreading carb love all over the map and our ovens are just getting warmed up! We’ll take bagels to mars if the locals are hungry up there.

WE’RE HIRING A BAKERY FACILITIES TECHNICIAN, BASED IN DC

As our Facilities Technician, you’ll keep the equipment and building systems at our DC Commissary and production bakery operating safely and reliably. Reporting to the Director of Commissary, you’ll troubleshoot issues, perform preventive maintenance, complete repairs, and help our production team avoid unnecessary downtime.

This is a hands‑on role. We expect you to diagnose and complete approximately most of our equipment and facility repairs yourself. For other projects, you’ll bring in the right outside vendors and manage the work from the initial service call through completion. The right person leads with action, knows how to fix what’s within their expertise, when a licensed specialist is needed, and how to keep everyone informed along the way.

If you’re picking up what we’re laying down, keep reading!

YOU'LL CRUSH THIS ROLE IF YOU HAVE...
  • At least 3 years of hands‑on facilities, equipment‑maintenance, or repair experience
  • Experience working with commercial bakery, restaurant, kitchen, manufacturing, or food‑production equipment, including ovens and refrigeration
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, and general facility systems
  • Experience coordinating and overseeing outside service vendors
  • Ability to read equipment manuals, diagrams, service documentation, and safety instructions
  • Ability to prioritize urgent repairs while staying on top of preventive maintenance and longer‑term projects
  • Strong organization, communication, and follow‑through
  • Bilingual or proficient in English and Spanish is preferred for communicating with vendors and staff
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to successfully complete a background check
  • Availability to work a full‑time Monday–Friday schedule, starting at 5:00 a.m
  • Flexibility to respond to after‑hours emergencies, including on weekends
  • Can‑do energy and a genuine connection to our BIG V.I.B.E.S. (Vibrancy, Integrity, Belonging, Energy, and Seize the Moment)
What You’ll Really Be Doing
  • Diagnose and complete routine repairs on bakery, kitchen, production, and facility equipment
  • Serve as the first point of contact for equipment and facility issues at the commissary
  • Determine whether repairs can be completed safely in‑house or require an outside specialist
  • Complete approximately 70% of equipment and facility repairs directly
  • Coordinate outside vendors for approximately 30% of repairs, including requesting quotes, scheduling service, providing access, and confirming completion
  • Escalate vendor selection, contract, budget, and major repair decisions to the Commissary Director
  • Build and follow a preventive‑maintenance schedule that reduces breakdowns and extends equipment life
  • Conduct routine equipment and facility inspections and address concerns before they disrupt production
  • Respond to urgent equipment issues and help restore operations as quickly and safely as possible
  • Communicate equipment downtime, repair status, and operational impact clearly to the Commissary Director and production leaders
  • Maintain accurate work orders, service records, warranties, equipment manuals, and vendor information
  • Monitor commonly used parts, tools, and maintenance supplies and communicate replenishment needs
  • Support equipment installations, replacements, and facility‑improvement projects
  • Train team members on proper equipment care, basic troubleshooting, and when to report a problem
  • Follow all workplace safety, food‑safety, sanitation, and equipment‑lockout procedures
  • Identify recurring equipment issues and recommend practical, cost‑conscious solutions
  • Support other reasonable facilities and maintenance needs as assigned
Physical Requirements

The physical demands for this position include seeing, hearing, speaking, reading, and communicating effectively; standing, walking, reaching, bending, and performing repetitive physical movements; lifting up to 50 pounds; and safely operating equipment and tools using manual dexterity. You must be able to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment. This role also requires working in a fast‑paced environment around hot equipment, sharp tools, and varying temperatures, and occasionally working in confined spaces. These physical requirements may be accomplished with or without reasonable accommodation.
