Job summary

Fry's Food Stores is seeking a Grocery Clerk for Bakery/Deli to help create an outstanding customer experience. You will prepare items, offer samples, and inform customers about specials while ensuring correct portions and fresh quality.

The role requires strong service skills, math accuracy, and the ability to obtain a food handler permit after hire. As part of the bakery/deli team, you will stock and label items, follow safety regulations, and assist customers with product recommendations.

Qualifications

• Customer service and communication skills are required.
• Ability to perform basic math and handle transactions accurately.
• Must be able to obtain a current food handlers permit after hire.
• Experience in bakery/deli environments is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare items per customer requests using bakery equipment.
• Offer product samples to help customers discover new items.
• Inform customers of bakery and deli specials.
• Provide customers with fresh products in correct portion sizes.
• Recommend deli or bakery items to ensure customer needs are met.
• Use bakery equipment (refrigerators, slicers, ovens) per guidelines.
• Prepare foods following temperature logs and cooking instructions.
• Measure, mix ingredients with appropriate utensils and equipment.
• Label and inventory ingredients and merchandise.
• Check product quality and review sell-by dates; take action as needed.
• Report ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
• Know the store’s layout to locate products on request.
• Stay updated with ads and promotions.
• Gain knowledge of products and respond to customer questions.
• Maintain awareness of inventory and stock levels.
• Ensure proper temperatures in cases and maintain temperature logs.
• Promote trust and respect among associates; create welcoming environment.
• Adhere to food safety regulations and safety programs; identify unsafe conditions.
• Assist with equipment maintenance and notify management of needed repairs.
• Report accidents to management; work cooperatively in a fast-paced environment.
• Handle conflicts professionally and maintain honesty and integrity.
• Follow directions and seek help when needed to resolve issues.
• Support customers including minors and individuals with special needs.
• Perform essential functions of the role with or without reasonable accommodation.
