DELI COMBO CLERK

PURPOSE STATEMENT: To maximize sales and profit in the Bakery and Deli Department through courteous customer service while maintaining optimal department conditions.

SIGNIFICANT JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Create a welcoming environment for customers by answering questions about products.
2. Bake bakery products including breads, rolls, cakes, pies, pastries, and brownies.
3. Wrap, package, and sell bakery and deli items.
4. Record customer orders accurately for cakes and bakery items.
5. Process purchases quickly using electronic cash registers, scanners, and scales.
6. Review the department communication board daily for updates and follow guidelines.
7. Prepare and organize the cooler/freezer areas, verify deliveries, inspect for shortages/damage, and code date items.
8. Adhere to health codes and regulations; clean the department and equipment regularly.
9. Transport cases to sales areas, open cases, and stock/display products, checking for freshness and proper placement.
10. Ensure safety by following store safety rules and reporting hazards.
11. Operate equipment such as balers, slicers, scales, ovens, and fryers safely (must be 18+ for certain equipment).
12. Evaluate product quality, reprocess or markdown damaged items.
13. Monitor and record temperatures of cases and storage areas four times daily.
14. Replenish inventory in display cases and throughout the store.
15. Perform additional tasks as assigned to support department operations.

SUPERVISION: Reports to the Bakery Deli Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

• Basic math skills and ability to count.
• Ability to communicate clearly with team members and supervisors.
• Stable work and educational history.
• Ability to read and write English, including instructions and labels.
• Good interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in similar roles.
• Experience operating bakery and store equipment, including slicers, fryers, ovens, and scales (must be 18+ for certain equipment).

TASKS: The role involves mobility, lifting up to 50 lbs, reaching, stocking, cleaning, and customer service. The environment includes inside work with temperature variations and safety considerations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Inside with temperature variations, dust, humidity, and noise from equipment.
