Bakery Cook 2 | Part-time | McCormick Place Convention Center

Position Summary

The Cook 2 works under close supervision while assisting the Chef or Cook 1 accordingly. Cook 2 is responsible for the prepping and preparation of food as directed and they will perform any cooking, baking, butchering required and performs any and all duties in the kitchen. The tasks assigned must be completed quickly and efficiently while still abiding by necessary guidelines that will ensure quality standards are met.

This PT position pays an hourly wage of $27.47 to $29.47. This is a Union position. Benefits as per the union agreement.

This position will remain open until June 13, 2025.

McCormick Place located in downtown Chicago is the largest and most flexible convention center in North America, with over 2.6 million square feet of exhibition space. The campus proudly hosts some of the world's largest and most prestigious conventions, meetings, and trade shows, welcoming approximately 3 million visitors to Chicago every year.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Adhere to Board of Health and ServSafe regulations.
  2. Prepare food products as directed by recipe and/or supervisor while maintaining strict adherence to standards and specifications.
  3. Complete all assigned production priorities daily.
  4. Maintain the cleanliness of the work area (including but not limited to refrigerators, counters, tables, storage areas, etc.)
  5. Inform supervisor of any shortages or equipment malfunctions.
  6. Demonstrate knowledge of food quality, utilization, storage, rotation, and consistency.
  7. Demonstrate practical understanding of kitchen sanitation.
  8. Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Educational Requirement

  1. Must have a High School Diploma/GED.
  2. Must have sufficient math ability to accurately add, subtract, divide, multiply and perform other basic business math calculations and pass basic math skills test.
  3. Must speak, be able to read and understand English well enough to converse with customers, supervisors, and employees.
  4. Understand written and oral direction and communicate effectively with others.

Skills and Abilities

  1. Creates and supports a team environment.
  2. Scheduling flexibility is essential; must be able to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
  3. Six months of experience in a commercial kitchen.
  4. Conduct work efficiently to meet high demand.
  5. Must be able to work in a high-stress environment.
  6. Ability to work in confined spaces for long periods of time.
  7. Able to work in an environment having both hot and cold temperature extremes.
  8. Must have a pleasant personality and adhere to Uniform Standards policy.
  9. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
