Job Title: Bakery Clerk

General Function: Responsible for reviewing daily orders, preparing & replenishing products in a prompt, efficient, and friendly manner. Ensure a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members.

Reporting Relations

Reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home; Bakery Department Manager

Positions reporting to you: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all interactions.
  • Greet customers with a smile and assist them in finding products, securing out-of-reach items, loading/unloading heavy items, and noting customer suggestions.
  • Ensure food freshness and review daily orders.
  • Take customer orders at the bakery counter.
  • Work as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
  • Follow proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean.
  • Maintain an adequate food supply, develop or follow a production list, and anticipate product needs.
  • Prepare, finish, and replenish products as necessary.
  • Handle inventory including checking in products and reviewing invoices.
  • Operate the department register and handle payments where applicable.
  • Remove trash timely and adhere to personal hygiene and dress guidelines.
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Wash dishes, order supplies, price products, deliver orders, and assist in other store areas as needed.
  • Perform other duties and projects as required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and deal with concrete variables.
  • Basic math skills including addition and subtraction.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions, write identifying information, and request supplies orally or in writing.
Education and Experience

Less than high school or equivalent experience with six months or less of related work experience.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
  • Visual acuity at various distances, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision.
  • Physical activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Working Conditions

Work is conducted in a store environment with exposure to flour dust, noise, chemicals, electrical shocks, and temperature extremes.

Equipment Used

Standard bakery tools and equipment including mixers, ovens, wrapping machines, label printers, cash registers, dishwashers, bread slicers, electric knives, microwaves, airbrushes, and copy machines.

Contacts

Daily contact with the public, customers, and regulatory agencies regarding inspections.
