Job summary

El Super is seeking a friendly Bakery Clerk for the San Ysidro store. You will provide courteous service, assist customers with bakery purchases, and work with the Baker to determine items to bake or decorate.

Ideal candidates will read and follow simple instructions, handle shelf tags, and maintain clean displays. The role requires lifting up to 60 pounds and obtaining a Food Handler Card.

Qualifications

• Read and comprehend simple instructions, product labels, pricing codes, shelf tags, short correspondence, and memos.
• Write simple correspondence.
• Effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings to customers and employees.
• Apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.

Responsibilities

• Provide friendly, courteous, and helpful service to the Bakery department.
• Assist customers with bakery purchases.
• Clean shelving and display cases, and rotate self‑serve displays.
• Work with customers to take special orders.
• Collaborate with the Baker to determine which items may need to be baked or decorated.
• Assist with department cleaning, including hosing down floors with soap and water.

Starting Rate: $17.75 per hour

Qualifications

• Read and comprehend simple instructions, product labels, product pricing codes, shelf tags, short correspondence, and memos.
• Write simple correspondence.
• Effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
• Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Lifting requirements: regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 45 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
• Food Handler Card or its equivalent certification is required for all positions related to preparation, handling, and serving food.
