Job Description

Responsibilities
- Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness of counter, cases, and coolers on a continuous basis.
- Meet the day's production goals for baked goods.
- Maintain a clean and sanitized work area.
- Assist with receiving and unloading of merchandise and supplies.
- Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and respond to questions or make suggestions about products.
- Prepare special orders per customer requests.
- Use bakery equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, slicers, and ovens according to company guidelines.
- Measure, prepare, and mix ingredients according to recipes, using appropriate kitchen utensils and equipment.
- Properly prepare, package, label, and inventory ingredients and merchandise.
- Check product quality to ensure freshness; review "sell by" dates and take appropriate actions.
- Use kitchen equipment properly, including proof-box, stove, and computerized scale.
- Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
- Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
- Understand the store's layout and locate products as requested by customers.
- Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
- Monitor inventory/stocking conditions and report discrepancies.
- Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
- Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and reporting unsafe conditions.
- Inspect equipment regularly and notify management of repairs needed.
- Report customer or employee accidents and safety risks, including illegal activities like theft or fraud.
- Follow all merchandising, customer service, labor control, expense, and safety rules.
- Perform essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Bakery and retail experience
- Ability to speak, read, and write in a second language (if applicable)
- Ability to handle stressful situations
- Effective communication skills
- Knowledge of basic math
- Current food handler’s permit upon employment
- Ability to meet physical demands of the position
- Must be 18 or older
