Job summary

The Hershey Company is seeking a Bakery Line Operator in Bluffton, IN to run a large mixer and extruder, program controls, and ensure product quality by following SOPs. Prior machine operating experience is preferred to support the pretzel production line.

Shifts include days and nights on 12‑hour rotations (7am–7pm or 7pm–7am), with a 2‑2‑3 cycle. In addition to a $500 sign‑on bonus for eligible candidates, the role offers weekly pay, a 401(k), paid time off, and a $1000 referral bonus.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age at hire.
• High School diploma or GED.
• One-month related experience or training.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic in all units of measure.

Responsibilities

• Follow SOPs to maintain consistent product quality.
• Operate large mixer and extruder with computer programming.
• Measure ingredients and monitor dough temperatures.
• Check equipment and conveyors are set correctly.
• Create inventory moves in S4 Hana.
• Record ingredient lot numbers.
• Notify leads of any bad product and duration of shelf life.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Working 3-4 days/week. This is a 2‑2‑3 schedule (2 days on, 2 days off, 3 days on, 2 days off, 2 days on, 3 days off rotation)

Summary

Bakers are the start of the pretzel making process. You’ll be responsible for running a large mixer and extruder with computer programming and hand measuring. Previous machine operating experience is a must. Large bakery experience is a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Follow all SOPs to keep consistent product quality.
• Recognize the different dough textures.
• Keep hoppers filled with the proper amount of dough.
• Properly measure the minor ingredients by performing catch samples.
• Check dough temperature.
• Check the flour sifter each shift.
• Check all drives, cookers, salters, ovens, dryers, discharge, and proofing conveyors to ensure they are properly operating and set to correct settings.
• Document cuts per minute as required.
• Check and record caustic every 30 minutes; record on BakerQC.
• Check wet weights/length every 30 minutes; record on BakerQC.
• Create inventory moves in S4 Hana.
• Record all ingredient lot numbers.
• Keep salter full with the correct level.
• Notify leads, QA, and packers of any bad product and how long it will last.
• Communicate with immediate supervisor if any problems arise.
• All other duties assigned by supervisor and management.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
• High School diploma or GED.
• One‑month related experience or training.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers and decimals.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a manufacturing/food manufacturing environment including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Safe Quality Foods (SQF), Autonomous/Preventative Maintenance, Continuous Improvement, and Warehouse Management Systems such as SAP/LPR.

Physical Demands

• Must be in good physical condition to perform the tasks assigned.
• Frequently required to stand and walk.
• Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
• Work environment conditions may require or recommend the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to eye safety glasses, side shields, hearing protection, and hair/beard nets.
