The H&S Family of Bakeries are a network of 10 bakeries and multiple distribution centers along the East Coast, all committed to one thing: producing the best quality bread products possible. H&S Family of Bakeries includes Northeast Foods, H&S Bakery and Schmidt Baking Co. Together, our baked goods can be found in a wide range of establishments, from fast food and quick-service restaurants to cafeterias, hospitals, grocery stores and universities.

The Baker Apprentice is an entry-level position in the production department of our bakeries. This role performs various essential duties and tasks including box construction, packing and quality control. This role is a great way to get introduced to manufacturing and begin a long-term rewarding career.

In this role you will

  • Follow all standards and general manufacturing procedures.
  • Review list of the current production run.
  • Perform box construction, packing, and quality control duties on the production line.
  • Communicate information with other employees on the same line/area.
  • Ensure the proper handling, stacking, and movement of ingredients and bakery products.
  • Complete required work including, but not limited to: Quality Check sheets, dough schedule recording, taking temperatures of product, housekeeping and working in a safe manner.
  • Communicate any issues to the proper Supervisor or Manager.

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform box construction, packing, and quality control duties as part of the production process.
  • Operate and monitor and troubleshoot food machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Review the current production run and communicate any necessary adjustments.
  • Complete required quality control tasks, including recording dough schedules, checking temperatures, and documenting on quality check sheets.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards within the work area, following all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Stack, lift, carry pans, ingredient containers, and other production materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Adapt to frequent changes in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Adhere to safety procedures and report any issues to the Supervisor or Manager.
  • Stand, stoop, and work in a loud, hot production environment for the full shift.
  • Work irregular or rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays as required.

Safety

  • Maintains a safe working environment for all employees/contractors.
  • Promotes safety in all areas of operations.

Sanitation

  • Maintains cleanliness of the work area.
  • Properly dispose of waste materials and follow recycling procedures.
  • Follows proper G. M. P.'s at all times.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Production Supervisor or Lead Person.

Requirements & Physical Demands

  • Ability to arrive to work on time consistently
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and must also adapt to frequent changes that occur on the production line
  • Able to read, comprehend and practice necessary safety procedures, signs, etc.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds, stack, and/or carry pans, ingredient containers, etc.
  • Must be able to work around and with various food machinery equipment
  • Must be able to measure ingredients and follow written instructions
  • Have the ability to stand and/or stoop for the full shift
  • Ability to work in a loud, hot work environment
  • Willing to work irregular and/or rotating shifts, including split days off (non-consecutive days off)
  • Working holidays and weekends is frequently required
  • Must be 18 years or older
