We are seeking a highly organized, physically capable, and detail-focused individual to serve as the sole Production Baker Lead for a small-batch, values-driven coffee roastery and café. This role blends high-volume baking, production planning, inventory management, physical labor, and delivery logistics. You will manage the entire bakery operation—from order review and ingredient prep to final delivery across one owned and two client café locations. The position requires precision, endurance, and strong commitments to efficiency and quality. This role could be full time or spilt into 2 part time positions. Please specify your interest upon application. Current baking days are: Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday with an additional day in the school year. Hours can be flexible after training.

Key Responsibilities: Daily Setup, Order Processing, & End-of-Day Close

  • Open the facility and prepare workstations, equipment, and delivery materials.
  • Review and transcribe café and client orders from email to active worksheet; print and organize invoices.
  • Forecast upcoming production needs based on current orders, freezer inventory, and seasonal trends.
  • At end of day, complete full kitchen and facility close: sanitize prep areas and equipment, sweep and mop floors, clean drains, remove waste, and secure the building.
  • Prepare all daily baked goods (tea breads, scones, muffins) independently from raw ingredient prep to final decoration and packaging.
  • Measure and stage dry, wet, and filler ingredients for multiple batch types.
  • Follow standardized recipes with precision and make adjustments when needed.
  • Prepare glazes and icings; apply post-bake toppings with attention to consistency.
  • Monitor oven use, cooling, and packaging across multiple overlapping bake schedules.

Inventory Tracking & Production Planning

  • Maintain and update paper-based inventory tracking sheets in real time.
  • Compare orders to available inventory and calculate production requirements.
  • Refill bulk ingredients and manage low-stock concerns; handle occasional heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs) when restocking flour and other key items.

Packing, Delivery, & Distribution

  • Accurately pack baked goods into labeled orders for three café locations.
  • Load product totes (10–30 lbs), refrigerated goods, and supplies into a delivery van.
  • Complete a multi-stop delivery route using company vehicle; unload using a rolling cart.
  • Return to warehouse, clean and store delivery materials, and execute post-route duties.

Work Environment & Expectations

Location: Whitmore Lake, MI (on-site, with regional delivery responsibilities)

Position Type: Part-time or Full-time (medical benefits only for full time)

Compensation: $15-17/hour based on experience (plus distributed café tips); compensation will be reviewed upon completion of training.

This role is part of a small, collaborative team committed to quality, care, and operational integrity. The workflow is fast-paced and tightly sequenced, requiring strong attention to detail and self-management once training is complete.

The work is physically demanding, involving repetitive tasks, independent decision-making, and frequent lifting (up to 60 lbs). Feedback is delivered regularly in a casual, constructive format and is an integral part of the company’s learning culture. Team members are expected to uphold high standards of consistency and accountability across all areas of production.

Qualifications Required

  • Strong independence and time management in production or solo work environments.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry items up to 60 lbs.
  • High attention to detail in recipe execution, batch tracking, and packing accuracy.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company delivery van.

Preferred

  • Experience in commercial baking, food production, or fast-paced kitchen operations.
  • Familiarity with manual inventory systems and order fulfillment processes.
  • Comfort working in structured workflows with ongoing informal feedback.

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
