Summary
Safely erects and fits together appropriate equipment and materials for the building of asphalt plant and related components.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes the following; other duties may be assigned. The work environment described here is representative of what an associate encounters while performing these functions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Assist in building asphalt plant equipment and related components by safely and efficiently fitting and welding metal parts in a quality-conscious manner.
  • Demonstrate ability to properly weld using GMAW and FCAW processes.
  • Inspect metal prior to welding for smoothness and acceptability; produce welds with minimal post grinding.
  • Ensure welding machine settings are appropriate for the work performed.
  • Be trained in and know PPE requirements for welding, including hood, filter shades, and arm/body protection.
  • Follow proper safety rules and procedures at all times.
  • Overtime, including weekends, may be required as necessary.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Proper and safe welding using GMAW and FCAW.
  • Ability to read and understand weld symbols on drawings.
  • Safe use of cranes and forklifts.
  • Must pass a welding skills test.
  • Fit-up knowledge and ability.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

REASONING ABILITY: Solve practical problems and interpret instructions in various forms.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Regularly use hands, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, and talk; frequently stand, walk, sit; occasionally move objects over 49 pounds; specific vision abilities required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Exposure to shop and warehouse environments, moving mechanical parts, weather conditions, chemicals, extreme temperatures, and noise. Reasonable accommodations available.
