Job summary

Allegheny County Airport Authority seeks a Baggage System Technician to support Airline Services at PIT. The role reports to the Maintenance Supervisor - Airline Services and performs manual tasks within the baggage handling environment.

You will operate scissor lift platforms, clear baggage jams, move and load baggage, monitor faults, and assist trades while upholding safety and security standards at a large international airport.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Current, valid Pennsylvania Class C driver's license or ability to obtain the same.
• Must provide his/her own personal protective footwear (safety shoes).

The ACAA’s Baggage System Technician will report to the Maintenance Supervisor - Airline Services and assumes responsibility for performing manual tasks for the Airline Services department.

Key Responsibilities

• Work safely and abide by all ACAA safety guidelines.
• Develop or participate in the job safety analysis procedures.
• Operate scissor lift platform equipment.
• Clear baggage jams.
• Identify airline sponsored property via IATA bar code tags.
• Move baggage when directed.
• Load baggage into conveyor systems when required.
• Empty all trash receptacles in the Airline Services area.
• Clean all area associated with the transference of airline baggage.
• Clean Airline Service shop areas.
• Manually assign baggage within the conveyor systems.
• Monitor and "call out" baggage system faults.
• Understand the use and demonstrate the ability to use an "ACAA required" lockout/tagout program.
• Wash Airline Service vehicles, interior and exterior.
• Clean the exit windows of the automatic tag reader laser heads.
• Assists Airline Service trades.
• Works with a high degree of responsibility and awareness for the safety practices and standards of an international airport in these and other similar types of tasks.
• Performs other related work as assigned or directed.

Qualifications

• Considerable knowledge in the practices, methods, and materials of the airline services baggage handler.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and techniques of safety precautions and injury prevention programs.
• Considerable ability to work according to standard practices, using the materials and equipment of the occupation.
• Ability to work well with others.
• The ability to operate a scissor lift platform.
• The ability to identify an airline using the IATA barcode designation.
• Serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of the Authority\'s Ethics Policy.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Conditions While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, aircraft, heavy equipment and vehicles. The employee is exposed to all types of outside weather conditions, is frequently exposed to lights, noise, fuels and chemicals associated with aircraft and heavy equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud. Employee may be assigned or scheduled to work all shifts at a 24/7 operation, seven days a week including holidays; pass days will vary. Subject to remain on duty beyond assigned working hours to provide assistance during extenuating circumstances.

Medical Examination

Employment is contingent upon the results of a post-offer (initial employment or promotion) physical examination performed by the Authority\'s examining physician.

Drug Testing

Employment is contingent upon the results of a post-offer (initial employment or promotion) drug screening. Continued employment may be subject to drug and alcohol testing conducted without advance notice and without individualized suspicion.

Pre-Employment Investigation

Must pass a thorough investigation, consisting of a criminal history check (including but not limited to the requirements of CFR 1542.209 and 1542.3), verification of prior employment and performance, reference and credentials checks.
