Job summary

JBS Prepared Foods in Ottumwa, IA, is seeking a Quality Assurance Tech to verify product codes and meet customer specifications. You will perform SSOPs, belly audits, net weight verification, and ensure USDA compliance while communicating with production teams.

The ideal candidate has strong English communication, teamwork, and 6–12 months of production experience in a food facility. A High School diploma is required; a Bachelor’s in a science field is preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbally.
• Excellent teamwork skills.
• Previous production experience in a food processing facility highly preferred.
• Solid tenure in past positions, 6-12 months required.
• High School degree or equivalent required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in a science field preferred.
• Strong attendance (3 points or less for internal employees).

Responsibilities

• Monitor and evaluate quality levels of product.
• Monitor GMPs, SOPs and applicable employee hygiene standards.
• Perform quality checks and audits on product at specified times throughout the shift.
• Ensure all company safety guidelines are being followed per USDA standards.
• Work closely with management to achieve production and quality objectives.
• Perform various other duties as needed or assigned. Daily schedules and job assignments may vary.

POSITION: Quality Assurance Tech

DEPARTMENT: Belly Complex

LOCATION: Ottumwa

SALARY CLASS: Salary Non-Exempt

QA Tech is responsible for verifying that product codes, date codes, and belly codes are correct and that all product meets customer specifications. This position performs SSOP, conducts belly audits, and verifies net weights while also communicating effectively with USDA and production teams to address issues and ensuring compliance.
