A leading water supply corporation in Edinburg is seeking a Backhoe Operator. This full-time role involves operating heavy equipment, maintaining machinery, and assisting in construction projects. Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma and relevant experience. Strong communication and judgment skills are essential, along with the ability to work in various conditions. Responsible for safely and skillfully operating a backhoe and other heavy equipment. Maintains heavy machinery / equipment by performing simple preventive maintenance and repair tasks as needed (replacing parts, lubricating equipment, etc.). Assesses digging areas prior to beginning work to ensure that areas have been properly marked prior to digging. Constructs and repairs structural woodwork and equipment on water and wastewater projects or new construction. Assists in building and making repairs as directed by management, and helps train other employees in equipment operation. Conducts probes in water, dirt, and mud to locate water lines for meter installation and repair. Responsible for cleaning and maintaining assigned vehicles and equipment, and replacing damaged pipes and items as needed. Participates in job-specific and corporate training programs, and complies with all regulations and policies. Performs other duties as assigned.
A self-starting individual with a high school diploma or G.E.D. and up to three months of related experience. Must read, write, and follow instructions. Must possess a current Texas Driver License, a Class “A” CDL, and be insurable. Expected to complete safety and water/wastewater training courses. Good communication and judgment skills are required. Must be fluent in English. Basic math skills are necessary. Ability to work a flexible schedule, be on call, and work submerged in water/mud is required. Ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, and balance. Must be able to lift/move up to 100 pounds. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment. The noise level is generally loud.
One year of prior work experience preferred. Attaining a Waste Water License and a Class D Water License from TCEQ within twelve months is preferred.
