Job summary

PCL Construction, Inc. in Goodyear, Arizona, seeks a Backhoe Operator to safely and efficiently operate backhoes and other heavy equipment on a busy job site.

You will perform excavation, trenching, material handling, and related tasks following safety procedures and project guidelines. This full-time, on-site position offers $34–$36 per hour, Monday through Friday with 5/10s, and a per diem of $150 for eligible travelers.

Job Overview: The Backhoe Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating backhoes and other heavy equipment to support project construction activities. This role performs excavation, trenching, material handling, and other assigned equipment operations while following project safety requirements and equipment operating procedures. The successful candidate will be dependable, safety-focused, and experienced working with heavy equipment in an active construction-site environment.

Position is available in Goodyear, Arizona

Compensation: $34 - $36 per hour

Schedule: Monday – Friday (5/10s)

Per Diem: For eligible travelers, a per diem of $150 per day worked is available. Restrictions apply.

Job Functions:

• Reporting to work everyday as scheduled
• Conducting pre-operational inspections of equipment
• Understanding soils and safe procedures for excavating soils
• Working with others to accomplish team/project goals
• Possessing the proper licenses and qualifications to drive/operate equipment
• Safely completing assigned work tasks
• Operating various equipment such as Backhoes and Excavators in a safe and efficient manner according to manufactures and PCL policies
• Effectively communicate with coworkers, supervisors, and clients to maintain good relationships at work

Qualifications:

• Ability to take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects
• Able to identify ground markers
• Able to identify and locate underground services, such as pipes or wires, prior to beginning work
• Ability to load and move dirt, rocks, equipment, or other materials, using trucks, backhoes, excavators, or related equipment
• Ability to safely operate backhoes, excavators, bobcats, and related equipment efficiently to accomplish trenching, excavating, auguring, and other project tasks
