Job summary

Boulder County Sheriff's Office is seeking a full-time Background Investigator to conduct comprehensive pre-employment investigations for sworn and civilian applicants. You will review applications, conduct interviews, verify information, and prepare detailed reports while maintaining confidentiality and meeting timelines.

The role requires strong investigative skills, integrity, and the ability to work independently.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED.
• Possession of a Peace Officer POST Certificate in good standing (not necessarily current).
• Minimum of four years investigative experience in law enforcement or related field; or two years of pre-employment background investigations experience.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive pre-employment background investigations for sworn and civilian applicants.
• Review applications, personal history statements, employment records, criminal histories, financial information, military records, and other documents.
• Conduct investigative interviews with applicants, employers, supervisors, coworkers, references, and others.
• Identify discrepancies and conduct follow-up investigations as needed.
• Utilize databases and public records to verify information.
• Prepare thorough written reports documenting findings and concerns.
• Communicate findings to Personnel and Training staff and command personnel.
• Independently manage multiple investigations and meet timelines while maintaining confidentiality.
• Maintain accurate investigative files per policy and law.
