Job summary

Chalk is hiring Software Engineers to join our in-person team as early employees. You will tackle challenging engineering problems with autonomy and ownership and work on systems in DBMS query planning, compilers, and distributed analytics.

We expect 2+ years of backend experience, solid CS fundamentals, and the ability to own and evolve core components. You will code in Python and Rust, collaborating with the founders in a fast-growing startup environment.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
• Strong working knowledge of computer science fundamentals; comfortable building and maintaining real systems.
• Willingness to lead development of new components and own existing software.
• Proven ability to learn quickly and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with Chalk’s co-founders
• Write Python and Rust
• Design, implement, ship, and maintain significant components of our query planning and execution engine
• Iterate rapidly to improve Chalk’s platform in response to customer needs
