ERGO NEXT is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to join a hybrid team in the Waltham, MA area. You will work with modern backend technologies, primarily server-side Kotlin, and contribute to a fast CI/CD workflow that pushes code to production several times daily.

You will own features end-to-end, collaborating with product, marketing, and frontend engineers to deliver robust, scalable SaaS solutions for small business insurance across the US.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of backend end-to-end feature or product development.
• B.Sc. in Computer Science or equivalent is a must.
• Excellent knowledge of OOP concepts and best practices.
• Hands-on development in distributed, cloud-based environments (AWS).
• Experience with relational databases and SaaS backends.
• Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, or Python.
• Adaptable and quick to learn new technologies.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Backend Software Engineer, Workers Compensation

Location: Waltham, MA (hybrid)

Our Backend Software Engineer can expect to work with the latest backend technologies and programming languages. We’re big fans of server-side Kotlin, and we produce clean, testable code fast and push it into production several times a day via our CI / CD pipeline.

What You’ll Do:

• You will work closely with other functional areas in the company product, marketing, and front-end engineers to rapidly iterate on our product and find the best solutions to our challenges.
• You will take ownership of features – from inception through design and coding, eventually bringing your feature to production at a high level of quality and test coverage.

What We Need:

• 6+ years of experience in Backend end-to-end feature and/or product development.
• B.Sc. in Computer Science or equivalent is a must.
• Excellent knowledge and understanding of OOP concepts and best practices.
• Hands‑on development of highly distributed, cloud-based environments is an advantage. We work with AWS, but any cloud experience is a plus.
• Experience working with Relational Databases.
• Experience with backend feature development in a SaaS environment.
• Experience with Java, Kotlin, and/or Python is ideal.
• Adaptable, with a passion for quickly learning new technologies and working effectively in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to navigate and work effectively across diverse domains and contexts.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The range displayed on this job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire base salaries for the position in the location(s) listed. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including, without limitation, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. ERGO NEXT employees are also potentially eligible for our annual performance-based incentive program, in addition to our benefits package, consisting of our partially subsidized medical plan, fully subsidized vision/dental options, life insurance, disability insurance, 401(k), flexible paid time off, parental leave and more.

US annual base salary range for this full-time position:

$163,000 - $220,000 USD
