Job summary

WHOOP is seeking a Software Engineer II (Backend, Health Records) in Boston to help build scalable ingestion and processing of health data. Qualifications

• 2-4 years of experience building backend systems and APIs in production environments.
• Understanding of API design principles.
• Commitment to leveraging AI tools while maintaining high-quality work.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to break down technical tasks.
• Exposure to healthcare data standards (FHIR, CDA) or integrating with external health data sources.
• Experience designing and working with data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and validation of structured or semi-structured data.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop backend systems for ingesting and processing health record data from external sources such as EHRs and third-party platforms.
• Build and support robust data pipelines to clean, normalize, and structure health record data for reliable downstream use.
• Develop and maintain secure, scalable APIs and services exposing health record data to internal systems and member features.
• Collaborate with product, data science, and engineering teams to unlock new health insights and capabilities.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, and documentation to ensure high-quality, maintainable systems.

• WHOOP is hiring a Software Engineer II (Backend, Health Records) to help build the systems that enable secure, scalable ingestion and utilization of health data
• In this role, you will contribute to the infrastructure that connects external healthcare ecosystems with the WHOOP platform, transforming complex health records into meaningful, actionable insights
• Your work will directly power personalized health experiences and expand WHOOP’s ability to deliver long-term value to members
• Contribute to the design and development of backend systems for ingesting and processing health record data from external sources (e.g., EHRs, third-party health platforms)
• Build and support robust data pipelines to clean, normalize, and structure health record data for reliable downstream consumption
• Develop and maintain secure, scalable APIs and services that expose health record data to internal systems and member-facing features
• Apply best practices for data privacy, security, and access control when working with sensitive health data
