Job summary

The ideal candidate will have a CS or related degree and 2–5 years of experience, with proficiency in Node.js and/or Python, cloud platforms, and a collaborator mindset in an agile environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2–5 years of professional experience building and delivering production software systems.
• Experience designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software that solves real business problems.
• Proficiency in Node.js and/or Python; experience with backend services and APIs.
• Experience with cloud-based distributed systems (AWS/Azure/GCP) and microservices.
• Ability to work in an agile environment with iterative delivery and testing.
• Interest in applying AI-enabled tools to practical use cases.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Experience in insurance/fintech is a plus.
• Startup or high-growth environment experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain production-grade software systems powering Brightway’s platform for agents, advisors, and customers.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship impactful features quickly and reliably.
• Write high quality, well tested, and maintainable code with focus on reliability, performance, and scalability.
• Translate high-level business needs into practical technical solutions using custom software and off-the-shelf tools where appropriate.
• Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues in a timely manner, taking ownership of the systems you help build.
• Continuously improve software quality by identifying technical debt, improving system design, and refining existing implementations.
• Stay current with modern software development practices and AI-enabled tooling, applying new techniques where they provide clear value.
• Deliver solutions iteratively, incorporating feedback and measurable outcomes to drive continuous improvement.
